Has anybody used this medication for itch and sleep? If so what has been your experience with this.

I have bladder spasms and I had a terrible time getting to sleep. The spasms are very uncomfortable when I’m lying there in bed trying to drift off. I read that some folks felt amitriptyline was helpful. I was first prescribed 25 mg. That put me to sleep!!! Very effective. I was pretty drowsy during the day though so I asked her to prescribe 10 mg. ( Until she did I cut the 25 mg in half) After a couple of months I tried to get off the amitriptyline just because I hate taking more meds than necessary. Yikes!!! After a few days I was back to the same problem but even during the day. Went back on the 10 mg and feeling relief. Sorry to be so wordy!!

I took it for 10 years, and it helped me sleep very well. Then it wasn't working, and I didn't want to up the dose.=, just on principle. Now I use a variety of sleep aids.

@tngirl103 Thank you I’m like you I hate taking medications also. I have nerve issues and a crazy itch that keeps me from sleeping. Again thank you!

I went on Amitriptyline for pelvic floor spasms, I started with 10 mg and they helped me a lot, eventually I was told to stop using them because they caused rapid heart beats which I got from covid, the pelvic spasms are calmer now but I don’t sleep as well anymore.
