Amitriptyline 25 mg

Posted by srwolfe @srwolfe, Sep 26, 2023

Ok people my Dr has prescribed Amitriptyline 25 mg for my chronic body pain. Started on 9/21/2023 and so far no nite sweats. Instead I am really sleepy all day. Last night I took the pill at 5pm and feel a little more alert. I feel some pain relief but nothing close to the overall pain relief of using the cymbalta. Only five days hopefully the amitriptyline will kick in and help the pain. Anyone using Amitriptyline please let me know.

I seem to get side effects from medications but not Amitriptyline.
Amitriptyline was one that worked for me. One at night and I’m finally sleeping through the night. I take one and wake up with no side effects and sleeping is so important. I believe there is “no one size fits all”. But this works for me.

Do you only take the Amitriptyline at night? Also, what dose do you take and how soon before going to bed? I have severe insomnia. I usually fall asleep okay using Trazodone and Melatonin but wake up 1-2 hours later and struggle to fall back asleep. My sleep doctor only recommends hypnotic type drugs, which I really don't want to take.

I had to stop amitryptilline when it started making me wobbly in the morning. Apparently old3r bodies do not metabolize it effectively and it begins to build up.

Hello I use to have serious or severe insomnia.
I now take amitriptyline 25mg
1 or 1/2 depending on my pain level at 9 o’clock. Within an hour and a half I start to get very tired and I go to bed until 7am. This is the norm.

It’s to bad of the side effects of anti depressants. The cymbalta that I tried first was incredibly great at helping my overall body pain. The amitriptyline I didn’t get to take it very long. The heart is a no no for me.

I take Amitriptyline (10 mg) for abdominal pain. I take it at night and it helps me sleep. It doesn’t do anything for abdominal pain though. I have nerve damage in my epigastric area.

My doctor also prescribed elavil. I think it is making me sleepy. I would like to hear other people's experiences too.

I've been taking amitriptyline for atypical neuralgia pain. I do think that it helped me but I'm now weaning off it very slowly to see how I do without it. I am down to 5mg daily which is very low, I'm going slow so the withdrawal symptoms don't get too bad. Currently I am experiencing headaches and not feeling 100%, but I believe it is due to reducing the medication even though I am reducing very slowly (reducing by 5mg every 14 days).
Has anyone else here experienced withdrawal symptoms from amitriptyline?

I was on Elavil for years - over ten. Never had any issues stopping it. I had issues going back on it. I was on 50mg for over ten years. When the docs wanted me to restart it several years later, even the smallest dose made me exhausted and non functional. I think our bodies change over time. It was a great med when I was on it. Medicare doesn’t approve it for the elderly. Maybe that’s why. Irene5
