Alternative treatment instead of Prolia injections

Posted by malliecallie @malliecallie, Feb 27 9:50am

Recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis, doctor prescribed Prolia injections. Because of possible serious side effects, I do not want to take it. I am 79, active, working as office administrator, walking an hour (fast walking) 7 days a week. I want to remain active and feeling good.

Has anyone used testosterone pellet therapy for osteoporosis? A friend had great results. Any thoughts?

Hi
Is your friend also using both estrodiol and progestin? I'm trying to learn about the different HRTs and their impact on bone metabolism, so I'm curious to know.

Hi there I have used progesterone cream and testosterone and estradiol cream for the past 20 years. I am 67 years old. Start with Dr. Erika Schwartz in New York. She has written books and now I go to Dr Bazzan and Philadelphia also has written books on this subject. My numbers have remained around the same point for all these years but I am now osteoporosis in the 2.6 range but one of my numbers is 1.9 yesterday I did the testosterone palette with estradiol because my doctor feels it will build bone. I have felt great on the hormones for many years but now did the testosterone palette because it has better delivery. I am hoping it will build my bone like the doctor said I am giving it another six months and will get another DEXA scan. I was considering Forteo or Tymolos box but I just want to give it one last try with this method, my girlfriend did do the pellets, and they did reverse her osteoporosis. I am really afraid to go on the drugs because I did go on Actonel for three months and had really bad side effects two years ago so I stopped it. Many mainstream doctors don’t believe in the hormones so it’s a matter of choice. You can look up both the doctors names. I recommended and read a little about what they say. I know Dr. Schwartz were going to the pioneers of bio, identical, hormones in the beginning.

These are bioidentical hormones not synthetic.

I wish I had started 20 years ago! Just started, but hopeful. I’ve found minimum effective dose for estradiol, but not for testosterone. Do you mind sharing what doses of cream you used for each and what dose testosterone pellet you will use?

REPLY

Hi there…I do cream of progesterone cream 2 pumps each day. I have to look at the dose at home. I just got my first pellet of testosterone and pellet of estradiol. I believe the testosterone was 37.5 mg a low dose. I will let you know how I feel. This is my last try before going on a pharmacutical. I am petrified of the side effects. Make sure you go to a reputable doctor that deals with these hormones. Bloodwork should be taken every three months in the beginning. Of course there is controversy from the drug companies etc. if you are near the phila area Jefferson Hospital has the Myrna Brin center of Integrated medicine.

The bloodwork will determine the dose for you. Good luck…it’s has maintained my bones but I am at a low osteoporosis level ….some numbers went to osteopenia. I will try to give it a year if I don’t have side effects. N

malliecallie,
some people have success with Prolia. I hold your opinion on side effects and would never take Prolia. I can echo agreement with the importance of starting with an anabolic drug. Chris mentions the three Forteo, Tymlos and Evenity. I'm not happy with Evenity. It is too new and boxed with cardiac issues.
Your doctor is right about hair. Hair isn't the issue with Prolia; it is the bones.
I've been on Forteo for almost a year with no side effects. I've no dxa proof, but my bone markers look great. I've never seen an endocrinologist who didn't offer me a choice between osteoporosis medications. It's so good that you are doing the research.
An advantage with Forteo and Tymlos is that they leave your system quickly. If you have side effects, you can stop taking the medication. Evenity takes 65 to 85 days.
I wasn't tempted to avoid the meds for osteoporosis, because I didn't want to risk fractures.
Best wishes in your search.

I had Prolia for 2 years. I broke my arm two weeks ago. Ortho stopped the Prolia. I am interested in try Reclast. My friend took it for two years and bone density improved. Any help would be appreciated.
