Alternative to pred. Does waiting too long after injury to start med

Alternative to pred. Second question. What if you have to wait a week to week 1/2 after injury before beginning pred does it cause more permanent damage or just discomfort? No apparent nerve damage just sore spinal regional mid to lower back and in tail Does waiting too long after back injury to start med? Can a nerve damage from a fall take a long time to show up? How long would does it take for slipped disc bulging disc or nerve damage after a fall to show up?

I use a strong NSAID called flurbiprofen for various back issues and mistakes in movement. It is supposed to be half as strong as a steroid, though not sure what dose that refers to. (Unfortunately I have had to stop using flurbiprofen because my kidney values have gone down...I never used it that often but it helped a lot when I did...) I cannot tolerate anything but very low dose steroids.
