Another member @chrissieg mentioned the autoimmune diet helped her and started a similar discussion Diet & PMR: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/diet-pmr/. My first time with PMR lasted 3 and half years and six years later it came out of remission. I started eating healthier and removing sugar and inflammatory foods as much as I could (with a few slips!) and I was able to get my PMR back into remission in 1 and half years. I'm sure following the autoimmune protocol diet would be helpful.
I thought I would share a reference for those not familiar with the AIP diet.

Are you on prednisone or other biologic for treating the PMR?

3 ReactionsThank you for the info! I was on prednisone for over 3 years. Damaged my eyes and bones 😔, but felt great! This year has been spent ruling out Sjogren’s, Lyme, etc. I’ve decided I need to go in another direction to relieve my pain. I’m in no way anti-medication but am weighing risk/benefit.
I have been vegan/vegetarian 🌱 for years, so I’m very conflicted about trying the AIP diet. However, living in this amount of pain is also not an option. Would love to hear any “alternatives” folks have tried.
Best to you all!

2 ReactionsI eliminated refined sugar and white carbs about 4 years ago. I have been struggling with PMR since 2019, Dx 2020, and now GCA Dx Nov 2025. Diet changes have helped, if nothing else my lipid panel is all good. I also have chronic kidney failure (CKF) so I am working to eat more plant-based foods. I am also working with a renal dietitian to make the necessary changes. I have eaten organic at home for 25 years since I became a breast cancer survivor. I am a firm believe we are what we eat. Food is the fuel our body has available to operate our metabolic system. Plain and simple. I wish you well on your journey.
