AFIB and HEART RATE

Posted by beebo @beebo, 5 days ago

I recently had a return of AFIB more than 2 years since being resolved by an Ablation.
I’m working on scheduling visits to begin a Treatment Plan. This time, I’m told that I have “Atrial Flutter “
As soon as it returned, I had an unusual change in my Blood Pressure. I’m very consistently in the 115/60 range. Now, the Top Number has gone down while the lower number has gone up. To readings like 90/75. ( my HR also went from the 60’s to the 120’s, but I expected that to happen)
Has anyone experienced this? Or have an opinion on what is causing this? Thanks!

I am new to AF from a severe infection. Have been running low/normal with BP. I was put on Digoxin for the rate, as I can't take Beta Blockers or Calcium Channel Blockers (have severe asthma). Going to Cardiologist on Monday. My rate is well controlled but concerned/worried if I will need ablation. On Eliquis currently as well as Prednisone for my severe asthma. How painful is ablation? Any response is appreciated. Thanks.

@pht1123 I have had two ablations, and now I’m trying to get scheduled for another one, because after 2 + years, I developed Atrial Flutter.
I have absolutely no anxiety about going for this procedure. For me, the worst part is blowing the good part of the day waiting around. You go in very early and wait. Then you have some conversation with the team who will be doing it. Finally you get taken to the place where they do it. Really cool, like the control room at NASA. Next thing , you wake up in recovery area (both times I was pissed when I woke up, thinking they had postponed the procedure. ). You need to hangout there a couple of hours so they are sure that the insertion they make near your groin has stopped bleeding. I guess the only part of the procedure that involves any pain is when they insert the IV needles. I was home mid afternoon both times. Took me about a week to get to feeling fully back to normal. Best Wishes!

Thank you for your quick response. I see the cardiologist on Monday. Glad your ablations went well and I hope the next one goes smoothly. It gave me hope that if I do need this procedure, that it should not be so bad. Good luck to you, too.

@pht1123 Hi- sorry you’re going through this. The ablation I had was not painful in any way other than the prick from the IV needle- anesthesia took care of it. Was a bit groggy for a little while waking up but otherwise not a difficult experience. Good luck!

@pht1123 One thing I failed to mention: At least in my case, I had gotten so used to being in AFIB that I just considered it to be the norm. And it didn’t really bother me . But after the procedure and recovery, it’s amazing how good you feel. Totally worth going through the process of getting it done. Best Wishes!
