Advice on "before" and "after" Laser Photocoagulation

Hi all,

I have been suffering Macula Degeneration for about 3 months, with blurry vision unable to focus/sharpen images on my left eye. Up-to-now, no other symptoms have be found.

I have been treated aflibercept (eylea) injection twice but unfortunately no improvement achieved.

I will attend Laser treatment on the coming 5th, Sept. I suppose the treatment will be "Laser Photocoagulation". Unfortunately no process of treatment is indicated on the pre-advice letter, only mentioning "Laser treatment". I'll find out the process of treatment when attending the clinic.

Please advice what will be the precaution of "before" and "after" Laser Photocoagulation. Thanks in advice.

Just my reading and understanding: Laser photocoagulation makes small burns to the retina, to either treat weak and bleeding veins (in the case of Wet AMD) or to treat ischemic areas of the retina (to bring more oxygen to neighboring areas). You should learn whether your MD is the wet kind, dry is just treated with vitamins and waiting.; and how much laser photoc. they intend to do. They did some 400 shots to me, which covered maybe 1/6th -1/10th of my retina. The process was almost painless, but I had it in multispot mode (energy is ditributed to several areas at once). The process is irreversible, so please ask your type, and extent.... But on the good side, the periphery (not your macula or fovea) can make up for the lost cells remarkably well. You would notice light color/contrast loss, but still see fine in your peripheral vision. Best wishes.

Thanks for your advice.

My doctor hasn't informed me whether DRY or WET MD (Macular Degeneration) but I can see "straight line" not as a curve line. I support I'm suffering DRY MD.

I'm only suffering slightly blurry vision, no other symptoms. My left eye can still recognize other persons' faces, if not at far distance. No other symptoms are found.

I only learned "Laser Photocoagulation" recently on Internet. There are details information on Internet such as, Mayo Clinic/Cleveland Clinic/NIH/Macular Degeneration Net etc.
