Adrenaline surges
I am trying to get back on Clomipramine after 3 months off it. I find I get adrenaline surges. When I try to fall asleep I get jolted awake by a shot of adrenaline. Does anyone have any experience with this.

Does it happen around 3 in the morning? I know that there are studies that say that at 3 am, the body does something that sometimes processes cortisol. It sounds like your autonomic nervous system has something going on. That is the fight/flight/freeze part of us. I know that I wake up at 3 quite often. I have adrenaline surges during the day sometimes, but I know mine comes from trauma and survival skills that my body has developed from childhood.

Yes it is my autonomic nervous system. I have gone through a change of medication. My body is stressed. I am unable to sleep without Ativan. When I wake up and try to drift off to sleep I get a jolt of adrenaline. Or if I try to take a nap. My body is on high alert.

2 ReactionsI've been getting these surges, mildly at 3am and strongly at 5am for years. It started when I stopped estrogen cold turkey after a cancer diagnosis. I was going through a traumatic breakup at the same time, and my endocrine system has never recovered.

3 ReactionsTough times.so sorry.I get strong adrenalin surges when I wake anytime. They almost hurt.I do strong deep breaths to stop them. Its not like what is often called "butterflies" from nerves it's so much stronger right to your finger tips. Worst when going through a lot of stress, and I have for over five years.

I’ve never had them before I went through the medication change. I guess it all comes back to the body and mind being stressed. Take care

1 ReactionHi, I get them, too. My body reacts poorly to eating and I wake up with these adrenaline surges/waves: strong nausea and fear of vomiting, faintness, sweating, physical weakness, racing heart, etc. I'm going to a therapist in a few weeks, but I started my full dosage of Sertraline and Fluanxol again. Apparently restarting/increasing a dosage can make you anxious for 1-2 weeks.
