Adrenal Insufficiency caused by long term Prednisone

Has anyone who has/had true adrenal insufficiency been able to eventually taper off of prednisone?

I have been on and off prednisone for 35 years. Currently I am on 2.5 mg / day from 15 mg / day since i started on Kevzara. I have often wondered if I have adrenal insufficiency. How would I know?

My endo diagnosed me with adrenal insufficiency based on my symptoms when trying to come off of prednisone and because I had been on high does repeatedly over the the last year until eventually I could no longer get off of it without having pretty disturbing symptoms. My cortisol and acth levels also decreased although they were still at the very low end of “normal”

Thanks for your input. At this point I’m very frustrated and honestly don’t even trust my Endocrinologist’s advice and I’d like to go to Mayo but I’m 450 miles from the closest clinic.

I live in the Phoenix area. I went to Mayo for my treatment. I think that I had 2 visits with a rheumatologist. He then sent me for about 4 labs and scheduled an appointment with a cardiologist. The cardiologist led to more appointments and labs. They prefer their labs done at Mayo but they might be able to schedule the same day. You could video conference some of your appointments and possibly do most of your labs at home. Mayo has gotten very busy to get appointments. Mayo Phoenix does not take Medicare advantage plans only straight Medicare.
