Adjustable bed and appropriate mattress for it
I find that sleeping on my couch at an almost 90 degree incline makes me feel safer. I am in quite a precarious position with a number of hemoptysis incidents lately, and I ready to purchase an adjustable bed with my limited savings. I would love some recommendations from those who have one. Can’t afford anything super high-end, but need something solid and reliable. Thanks and advance for your suggestions.

@paxmundi Can you ask your doctor to prescribe a hospital bed? When my Dad needed one, with the script, Medicare paid for a rental. Then if you find it helpful, you can go to,a local mattress company (in Minnesota we have one called The Original Mattress Company) and buy one comparable to the National brands for about half the price.

3 Reactions@sueinmn Thanks for offering another strategy, Sue. I know that I would definitely benefit from this as I have been sleeping with a 30 degree wedge but it just hasn’t been quite enough.
On the mattress issue, do you mean just go to a generic mattress store locally and find something that may be a lot cheaper? Sounds good! One concern is off-gassing. I was somewhat primed to go for the Costco Casper on sale right now, but I just saw a review on YouTube that said it had awful offgassing. It seems that we particularly have to pay attention to that aspect.
@paxmundi
@paxmundi We have a Casper in our tiny Texas home (same model as Costco, but from a store that offered a free adjustable base with it.) We did not experience off-gassing like some have reported, but chose not to sleep on it and ventilate the house the first 2 nights "just in case".
We liked it so much that we bought a very similar one from the independent store baxk home because their package price was cheaper than Costco Casper plus adjustable base (we would have to by elsewhere as our Costco didn't offer one.) Again, no noticeable outgassing - and I am sensitive to it.
@sueinmn Such great feedback, Sue! Thanks so much! Costco is having a sale on the Casper now and I’ll compare that to local mattress store. If I go for that, I’ll be sure to leave the windows in my bedroom wide open and not sleep in there for a few days. My lungs are SO fragile. Good to know that you too are sensitive to offgassing.
