Acupuncture for low back pain.

Posted by Angie P. @ancopau1998, Apr 30 3:38am

I have Multiple Myelomas for 3 years now and low back pain for about 15 years. Degrative disk disease so painful to walk and stand always shave to sit or bend. I'm going to have Acupuncture this coming week and want to know if anyone has had this for back pain I had the shots in my back about 10 years ago 4 times and it did nothing for the pain.
And how about acupuncture for numb feet? Anyone have this too?? Thanks!!

@ancopau1998 Angie, it will be interesting to hear about your acupuncture journey! I have had it used for a knee issue, and fibroid tumors. Recently a gal who did lymphatic massage on me discussed this technique with me. I am an active MM patient, too, also with neuropathy in left leg/foot.

My suggestion is to talk it over with the practitioner, so they understand your health issues beforehand. Here is a link from WebMD that speaks to complementary therapies with MM: https://www.webmd.com/cancer/multiple-myeloma/complementary-alternative-treatments-multiple-myeloma
From healthline, here is an article that also addresses complentart therspies: https://www.healthline.com/health/multiple-myeloma/complementary-therapies#acupuncture

My thoughts run to "can't hurt! And if it eases discomfort from the side symptoms, I'm all for that!"

I had 3 disk fusions in my neck but still had some on going neck/back pain and acupuncture was a real help. Be sure you go to a Certified Acupuncturist not a Chiropractor. The pain relief was amazing. It took several sessions but then I felt the pain relief. I then scheduled some periodic appointments or tuneups to manage my pain.

Hi tomwl, that's good to hear! Yes not a Chiropractor! I found out too that Medicare will pay for low back pain sessions, I'm assuming there will be co-pays but to get relief I'm all in. Thanks for your answer I appreciate it very much!!

It also helps a lot with Migraine Headaches instead of Botox etc.FYI

Acupuncture def helps my lower back pain. Hasn’t done much for numb feet (side effect of Jakafi!), but just very recently seems to have alleviated lower leg feeling of heaviness. Keeping fingers crossed it lasts… 😀

I have no side effects using Jakafi BUT do not know if is effective

Hi @inevanmac, thanks for answering. Have not had Acupuncture yet but sure hope it works! Never heard of Jakafil. I have numb feeling in my feet and toes going to ask about getting Acupuncture for that too. I took Gabapentin once and gave me hallucinations. Good luck to you!!

And good luck to you, AngieP. Three days on from Acupuncture and I’m still doing well. Can’t quite believe it myself! Jakafi is the medication I am on for PV. Hydroxy did not agree with me….
