Acupuncture for insomnia?

Posted by rocketjs @rocketjs, Apr 15, 2022

Has anyone had a positive benefit from acupuncture for better sleep? I tried a pretty long course of it several years ago and it didn't help my sleep. However, I was going through a fairly stressful time then. I'm thinking of trying it again now that I'm in a more settled phase of life.

@rocketjs, I think that fellow members @jilliemo12345 @ilovemary4749 and @dianepenning have mention acupuncture and insomnia or for improving sleep. They may be able to share their experiences.

Rocket, is there less stress in your life at the moment, but you still experience insomnia?

I've tried but am not sure how to find relevant comments by the members you listed. What's the best way to do that?
I've heard from sleep psychologists that it's common for someone to develop insomnia during a stressful period and then suffer from it chronically, longer term. That's what happened with me. I do have less stress in my life now but have generalized anxiety. And since having chronic insomnia, now have anxiety about sleeping. I take Ambien nightly but have long tried to taper off, unsuccessfully. Nothing else seems to work, so I'm starting to look at therapies I tried earlier in my life, like acupuncture.

Hi @rocketjs
I have tried acupuncture for better sleep, but It has not helped me much at that time. At that time, I was taking an anti-convulsant (I have epilepsy), that was affecting me much with its strong side effects, insomnia being one of them. I also believe that I was not at the right address /acupuncturist. I had a great Japanese acupuncturist some time ago, he passed away.
However, I still believe much in acupuncture and its benefits. Give it another try!!!
One thing that has helped me much with my sleep is yoga Nidra, also known as yoga sleep. I have yoga Nidra lessons and also use the Insight Timer app (it is a free app) to practice it daily.
All the best to you!
Santosha

Thanks, Santosha. I have used one Yoga Nidra audio and will check out the Insight TImer. Where do you take yoga Nidra classes? At a yoga studio? How do you feel it helps with your sleep? Just general relaxation?
