Achieving Orgasm after Radical Prostatectomy
I had a radical prostatectomy eight months ago. The nerves were completely removed. The healing went well, but there is still some incontinence, which I can deal with.
My biggest issue is my inability to achieve an orgasm. There is nothing wrong with my libido.
All I ever experience is the beginning of an orgasm, and then it fades. It is like a plane starting to take off, only to descend again without ever getting into the sky. My libido appears to be satisfied for the moment, but it is not what I was hoping for.
I am wondering if my expectation of failure is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Has anyone else gone through this? Is this all I can ever expect from sex in the future?

Wow still have libido only 8 months when nerves were completely removed sounds pretty amazing. I can achieve an orgasm with no pain, but doesn't get to point of being able to penetrate. Also, doesn't feel as good, but still no pain. Been 6 months since PR and I am 79. Also, all nerves spared on right and partial on left.

Think I will pass on that, too much of a chance of leakage and I wouldn't want that to happen. Wouldn't want to put my wife through that.
I meant giving pleasure to her only.

3 ReactionsI had NS RARP at age 70 about 28 months ago. Before surgery my "physical" side could pretty much make intercourse happen. After surgery, besides the initial ED from the surgery, I found I had significantly decreased physical sensitivity which greatly impeded getting aroused and having an orgasm. What helped me is I needed to "get my emotional side in the game". A lot more of things like cuddling and romance was needed since the physical stimulation just wasn't as good. For me, my nerves seemed to gradually wake up until at about 15 months I finally felt the sensitivity had returned. But for me, being more in tune to the emotional side made the experience better, so my wife and I continue to stress the things that helped us when the physical side was impaired. Also, I found that if I was worried about performing, it only made things worst. One doctor said on a youtube that anxiety is the anti-viagra, and I'm sure he's right. Fortunately for me my wife was the most understanding partner anyone could hope to have, so that helped me a lot when I tried to minimize worrying too much about performing. My doctor also had me on a penal rehab program using daily low dose Cialis (generic) and on-deman Viagra (generic) which helped me a lot with the ED and blood flow. Best wishes.

4 ReactionsMy experience post-RARP made me realize that orgasms are very much controlled by the brain, much like retireditguy describes. I do have experience some issues with reaching orgasm, but only about 5-10% of the time. I would suggest that you do your best to forget about not reaching orgasm and try to just focus on what feels good and whatever is going on, and maybe you'll be able to reach the goal. The brain is key in my case, and what I am thinking about or what I am watching on video, etc. makes a huge difference in how long it takes to orgasm. I think my maintenance dose of 5mg Cialis daily, with 20mg boosts for a harder erection has made a difference, too, so that may be worth a try if you haven't already. Good luck to you.

6 Reactions10 months post-RALP, and with respect to orgasms, I can say that there’re good and bad aspects for me.
I have ED following surgery, so no penetration, but I can achieve orgasm through manual stimulation/masturbation.
The good side: orgasms now are intense…much more intense than before. Now they’re whole-body experiences, hair-straightening and toe-curling orgasms that last and last and last.
The bad side: it can take a very long time, with a soft penis, to achieve orgasm…45-60 minutes. That’s a lot of manual stimulation!
Also, I’m still dealing with low-to-moderate incontinence, so it can get a little messy.

9 ReactionsI had nerve sparing on one side and standard dissection on the other. I can get a semi erection and can have an orgasm. I can still produce Cowper's fluid so I have some ejaculation. I can not get erect enough for penetration. My orgasms are fairly intense and they are pleasurable as well.

5 Reactions@turtbean That is exactly what I have found, it takes a while to get there, but they are very intense.
I am given to understand that this is the experience of a great many women, so maybe we are getting to experience things from something approximating their POV...
