? about blood pressure meds
The doctor prescribed lisinopril (40 mg) and amlodipene (5mg). I don't like the amlodipene (spelling not sure) because my ankles and legs swell up tremendously. But he does not give me an alternative. That's my first question. I like my doctor and don't want him to kick me out because I'm not following directions but I hate hate hate for my ankles and legs to swell up. When I tell him that he says, "Well, that is possibly one of the side effects of amlodepine," and he leaves it at that. Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

I take telemisartan (20 mg) for my mild hypertension - have done so for 15 years - zero side effect.
You can read up on how they differ ... BUT, if it does not appear you have your doctor's complete attention, AND, if your doc does not carefully explain WHY he has prescribed your med vs others (use telemisartan as a reference, perhaps), then fire your doc and go elsewhere.
There are lots of doctors ... there are opinions on which meds are best for various issues and folks, but you need to KNOW and UNDERSTAND exactly why your med is best for you - or, not best for you ... ie side effects ...
