Anyone diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus infection later in life?

56 yrs old diagnosed with a current (new) EBV

I was recently hospitalized with sepsis and pneumonia, and during my hospitalization I was tested for EBV. My results stated, “Suggestive of a current Epstein-Barr virus infection.”
Has anyone else here been diagnosed with EBV later in life rather than as a teenager or young adult? I’d be interested in hearing about your experience.

Dimples, what treatment did your doctor suggest? How is recovery from sepsis going?

I have had an active infection three times that I know of. Once when I was 16, and again after my daughter was born at 37 and again at 65, two years ago. Each time I have gotten progressively weaker and was disabled after the second one. A very healthy diet of no gluten, dairy or soy and as much organic as you can eat got me out of bed. I developed an autoimmune thyroid deficiency that went untreated for at least a decade, because of EBV and have severe insomnia for 30 years. Also ,I have other autoimmune issues too. I had a sleep study recently and they found that the sleep meds I am on prevent the middle stage of restorative sleep and less REM. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia but after much research on my own believe it is more accurately Mialgic Encephalomyelitis. Only one medical professional has ever helped me and not enough research is being done to find a cure or treatment. She was a functional medicine MD and started to treat my hypothyroidism even though my lab results were “normal”. I had both the antibodies and she started me on compounded T-3 and T-4 because I was allergic to Synthroid. If you have antibodies, you need supplement. That helped a lot until the third episode.
Magnesium Malate helps some with muscle tightness and fatigue.
Progesterone helps a little with sleep.
I am trying low dose Naltrexone to help calm my brain and reduce the autoimmune disease. It will take me a while to titrate up and Six months or more before I know if it will help. I have spent a fortune over the years trying to function better and “ have a life”. I hope you recover better than I have.
