2 consecutive PET scans show two different results

Posted by ymorfa @ymorfa, Nov 4 7:46pm

My husband was diagnosed with tonsil cancer bone e metastasis due to HVP16 positive 6 months ago. After 4 rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy a second PEC showed significant progression of FDG avid tumors. 3 months later and after 3 additional immunotherapy treatments ( not yet done) a 3rd PEC showed significant regression. Not sure what to make of it since we were very optimistic after the second PEC and now we are very concerned. We still haven’t seem the doctor to discuss the results of the 3 rd PEC. Any guidance will be appreciated

Hi @ymorfa

I think you meant PET and not PEC in your message.

I might be misunderstanding this, but didn't the third PET show regression of the tumor, and isn't that a good thing? Hopefully, you'll get your answers soon. Waiting for them can be torturous.

I had surgery 19 years ago after radiation and chemo. The PET scan suggested the cancer was still in the lymph nodes. None was found after surgery. Peace of mind, maybe, but it's a lot to go through. Good luck!

@56tburd thank you we just saw the doctor this morning and he is recommending a clinical trial called ADC targeting nectin4 used for others types of cancers. It seems the tumors developed some resistance to the immune therapy while at first with the chemo they were reduced
