Hi I am starting my first Evenity injection at the end of January and am terrified of the side effects. Has anyone had a positive experience with Evenity? Is there anything you have taken before the injection that may help. My doctor will give me a xanax to help with the anxiety before. Thank you!

Just a slight burning sensation at injection sites. Nothing else. Maybe EMDR could help with the anxiety.

Hi Helen- Thanks for answering. Three of them..but it's only talk right now. Tymlos, Evenity and Prolia. I was handed 3 brochures and to take time to think about it.

Have you decided against forteo? If so, what was the reasoning?

@gravity3. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is done by a mental health therapist trained in that method for posttraumatic stress disorder. That's what I know about EMDR and the evidence for it. I don't know of anyone who uses EMDR for anxiety.

EMDR from the National Center for PTSD:

There are lots of other methods for anxiety that can work. I use a combination of challenging my irrational thoughts and breathing. Here's what I've been doing and it helps me cope with anxiety:

1: Awareness of my surroundings.
2. Pay attention to my thoughts. Rational? Irrational?
3. Pay attention to my feelings. Where do I feel the emotion in my body?
4. Breathe. I breathe in to a count of 4, hold for a count of 3, and then breathe out for a count of 4-7. The counting helps me to focus on my breathing so that my mind won't wander away so much from what I doing.

Repeat 1-4 as needed. If I'm waiting for a medical appointment or procedure I do this over and over again. I notice it brings my anxiety down a few notches.

I’ve just found this thread and am very appreciative. About to start Evenity and frankly very fearful of possible side effects. I can’t afford to be sidelined as primary caretaker of my husband, but equally, and finally, conceding that my O is v serious and progressing, and I want a future. Am doing tai chi for osteoporosis with 3lb (heavy for me) weights and Juvent platform when I can. Thanks for all the helpful info here.

I am a retired licensed mental health clinician who used EMDR since 1992. I also assisted at EMDR clinician training. Yes EMDR can be used for treating anxiety with great results.

Realize that I didn't mention that massages help soooo much.

I've only had 3 Evenity injections but so far this has been a side effect free medication, for me. Other than a tiny bit of puffiness at the inject sites once and once an injection left a slight bruise, there has been nothing. No aches, no pains, nothing. I'm not discounting others bad experiences, just wanting to say that it works without problem for some. I want to add that I've been extremely food and chemically sensitive for 40 plus years and I'm quite surprised at what smooth sailing it's been. Fingers crossed.
Also, I researched for months and months before taking the plunge. From looking at studies, listening to doctors talks, and following different osteoporosis groups, consulting with Lani Simpson, IMO, Evenity is the most effective osteoporosis med and it probably has the least side effects. Or perhaps I should say few side effects for many people. To me it was the obvious drug of choice. Anabolics before anti-resorptives for many reasons, Evenity over Forteo or Tymlos because Evenity builds more bone and helps the hip and forearm way more than Forteo and Tymlos. After going over everything I could think of it seemed pretty simple to me. One gamble is the newness of Evenity. I chose to live with that.

@awful truth a few things
- Evenity has a long half life so if you do have side effects, they hang around
-Evenity dose is not adjustable and exposure increases with lower weight
-Evenity can be taken after Tymlos or Forteo but not the other way around

I chose Tymlos first for those reasons. I struggled with my first dose of Evenity and am still deciding what to do. Glad it worked smoothly for you!

Thank you for this. I am going to start Evenity soon. I also have many food and scent allergies. I am always nervous starting a new drug. This is the last post I am going to read for a while and just keep your experience in my head. Haha. Thx!

I started doing similarly with the breathing when I'm waiting for the doctor to come into the exam room. I've always been the anxious type. Relaxing my nerves allows me to have a proper discussion with my doctor.

It's easier for me to focus on, and take charge of my breathing when I'm just sitting there waiting, but not so much throughout the day when my irrational thoughts often seem to be in charge. @naturegirl5 I love your 4 step process. I need to pay closer attention to my thoughts, and to consiously challenge their rationale. I'll try your process. Thanks for sharing.
