Architecture distortion with birads 4

Posted by rb1428 @rb1428, Jan 15 9:05pm

Now I’m 41 and when I went for my first mamo it turned out as architectural distortion and called for additional diagnostics mamo . After diagnostics mamo technician told I need to go for ultra sound and while walking thru results radiologist told due to dense tissue she couldn’t assess clearly and ask me to schedule for biopsy which is scheduled on 1st February.

Today I got my diagnostics mamo results and mentioned birads 4 architecture distortion which making me nervous and anxious during my wait period till I get my biopsy results.

Anyone who can throw some light here is greatly appreciated.please share if anyone came across any of these situation. How can I interpret/ understand my case

@rb1428 I had architectural distortion with Birads 4 on my mammo. Biopsy came back as a radial scar/complex schlerosing lesion(benign). I had a lumpectomy to remove it. That pathology came back with every benign condition including atypical ductal hyperplasia(not cancer). I sent all pathology to a top women's hospital in my area for a second opinion. They narrowed down the pathology and did not see atypical cells. I understand your panic. Try not to Google too much, ask lots of questions to your dr and don't be afraid to ask them as there are no silly questions this is your health. If you are uncomfortable with results, answers you are getting(or not getting), and/or quality of care you can always get a second opinion. I know the unknkwn is scary and you have a few weeks to wait for any answers. Try to find something you enjoy doing to keep your mind occupied while you wait.

Please be sure to post back here how everything goes. Sending positive thoughts your way.

"The range of findings associated with BIRADS 4 category breast lesions can be highly variable. Indeed, there are three subclasses (A, B, and C) of BIRADS 4 in light of this variability.

So, the positive predictive value of BIRADS 4 breast abnormalities on a mammogram is between 23% and 34%. This is not all that high at all."

Any idea how radial scar comes like did you went through any injuries earlier like biopsy/ surgery etc

@rb1428
A radial scar is not really a scar they call it that I guess because it looks like one when they examine the tissue. Another name for it is a complex sclerosing lesion. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cancer.org/cancer/types/breast-cancer/non-cancerous-breast-conditions/other-non-cancerous-breast-conditions.html

@leesal123 - Thanks for your response it really helps me feel better .One more question , did had ultra sound before biopsy , if so how does ultra sound look like? are they able to find architectural distortion in ultra sound .

mine they could see in both mamo and ultra sound so as per my studies it seems more likely malignant:-(

REPLY

@rb1428 I had no ultra sound correlate. They did a MRI before the biopsy and then lumpectomy.
