Spirometer and walking in outside air as aides

Does anyone use a spirometer to increase lung capacity and help with air clearance?

I've been on the Big 3 for 6 months and recently heard about the spirometer and thought I'd give it a try. As a side note, I walk (briskly) as often as I can, outside, and notice that while walking I have NO coughing and no other issues. Maybe it's something to do with inside air being generally detrimental to the whole process?

Generally, we are directed to use a OPEP device such as the AEROBIKA for airway clearance. A spirometer is usually given to inpatients. I have 3 of them, No one ever followed up.

I don't seem to cough while walking or hiking either, but I think it loosens things up and I have a lot of mucus clearing, including coughing, after.

@byurose I asked my pulmonologist about using the spirometer. She said using the Aerobika is better because it vibrates the secretions loose.. She suggested just using the spirometer occasionally to measure that peak flow is staying the same.

Thank you @sueinmn. That makes perfect sense that the Aerobika is better.
