If on blood thinner, do you still chew a baby aspirin during stroke sx

joaf37 - I have a question regarding your dental surgeries. What was the reason for the dental surgeries? If you're uncomfortable answering, I understand. For me, in the Spring I had some teeth become loose and when being examined I had three break off at the gum line. This also took out two bridges. About 3-4 months later I had another tooth become loose and painful. It had to be extracted. My question is WHY? The dentist did not have any answers. I feel if I can't determine why, then is it going to happen again. This is so frustrating. I get cleanings every 4 months and have for some years now. Before then it was twice a year. I do have a autoimmune condition called Lichen Planus which does exhibit itself in gums and other parts of the body. I had COVID September 2022 and a GI bleed in late November 2022. I'm sure most folks would say that it's just my age (78) but I just can't think it's the calendar. When you see one specialist they really don't have the knowledge to pull everything together with what the other doc's are treating and how it can be linked together. Sorry to be so wordy but just looking for common clues. Best to you. Faye

Thanks for the comments; however, my situation was very different ... I had early reactions to local anesthetics . Twice in a row when I was young after Novocain I passed out cold -- but the respective DDS's at the time had serous changes reviving me; they each told my parents that it was psychological. That affected my seeing any DDS for way too long .. now it is well known that Novocain has many negative factors. As alternatives came out and I was willing to try them with great apprehension and more knowledgeable DDS, I'd be Ok but then another reaction not quite as severe. Affected me the majority of my life until an I was having another surgery and anesthesiologist told me that can be a combination of three different things or all three at once. Regrettably not at all related to your issues but a challenge my entire life. I can only imagine what your situation must be like ....

Indeed .. add to that that I see the medical profession ad complicated per having to deal with that aspect

If you are having symptoms of a stroke and you take an aspirin it could impact whether or not you qualify for clot busting medication. At least that was the old rule 10 years ago. Best to consult the ER that you should be being transported to. (Do not drive yourself call EMS and have someone find out what the stroke protocol is for the institution you are going to.

The nurse practitioner said don’t take one and my husband said first thing he would do was shove an aspirin in my mouth! lol!

When I was first put on Xarelto, I had been taking a full aspirin daily and my cardio knew that but didn't tell me to stop. I did have minor bleeding problems from a scratch so I stopped the aspirin and things were fine. But the aspirin bleed wasn't a big deal. I later was put on a baby aspirin by another cardio and now take one daily with no bleeding problems.
