Extreme exhaustion after normal exertion?

Posted by dawniepoo @dawniepoo, May 1, 2023

I had Covid in October, and soon after developed symptoms in my G.I. tract, my joints, and experienced severe exhaustion after doing normal household tasks that would’ve never bothered me before. It’s so bad that I have to lay down and tell my husband I am “having a spell“. I’ve been to the doctor. My lungs are fine. My blood work is all good, and he has said by heart is fine . Had echocardiogram and, CAT scan and a myriad of tests. We all assume Long Covid ,PS I am 78 years old. It’s become debilitating for me since I am generally very active ,gardening, exercising, walking ,yoga. This has really aged me and I wonder if I will ever get my life back . wondering if anyone has any ideas or has similar experiences.

Same kinda question: Can you provide detail on the tests the immuno is doing to locate "flags" and what the "flags" would indicate? Inflammation? MCA?

Thanks.

It’s called CytoDX Cytokine Analysis. I’m attaching a picture of the company that ran it, and what they were looking at.

Great - thanks! Was it through your healthcare provider and covered by insurance?

No. It wasn’t ordered by my doctor. My nutritionist ordered it. It wasn’t covered by insurance. It probably would have been if a doctor had ordered it.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Got it. I'll see what I can wrangle out of my PCP. He advised against doing the tilt test for POTS because it can be so inconclusive and I didn't push. Maybe this'll be a nice compromise. (Fingers crossed)

Sounds like me!! I'm just happy to do a few things when I can. Doing laundry today and watering a few house plants - heavy breathing and blurry vision. Yuck!!

I’m dealing with the same thing too!!!!

Yes, 100%. You must not over exert in any way when dealing with long haul. People tend to feel better, or feel great one day, so they bounce right back into all their normal activities and severely deplete the body again. You can greatly reduce your recovery by over-exerting, even basic walk might be too much, so take care to conserve what energy you have.

What will help is taking vitamin B-3, niacinamide, non-flushing form, 500mg x 3 daily. This will help your body create more NAD again; NAD is needed for absolutely all cellular function and body systems. You can also take Liquid IV specifically for the high magnesium and sodium content -- it is necessary for hydration and cellular function/absorbption of nutrients.

I wish you all the very best!

Yes!! I am a very active person. I am the kind of person that even if I stay home, there is always something that needs to be done. Since Covid, not the case. I literally emptied the dishwasher the other day and was so exhausted afterward, I had to nap. Not only is it odd for me to be exhausted after the emptying of the dishwasher, but it’s odd for me to take naps. Same thing happened after I did a few loads of wash. One would have thought I ran a marathon, I was so exhausted afterward. I did have two full days where I felt great. I did a ton of laundry, cleaned all the floors, dusted, vacuumed, scrubbed bathrooms, etc. Boy did I pay for it the next four days. So beware not to do too much even if you feel good. Hoping this does t last forever, but for now I work for about 10 minutes and sit for an hour and repeat. It’s ridiculous to have to do that, but if I go longer than 10 minutes, then payback for doing that is worse. Just hoping this fatigue along with several other highly annoying symptoms don’t last forever, but I definitely GET your “spells”. I mean who the heck gets exhausted after emptying a dishwasher that’s not that full to begin with??? Almost UNBELIEVEABLE. I hope you get an answer to your “spells” and if you do, let me know. I will say I’m lucky in that the Covid brain fog I have makes me care a little less about what I get accomplished so I guess that’s a plus. Good luck and I hope you find your energy sooner rather than later.

Yes. It’s a strange feeling. It took a year for me to get back to normal energy levels. Then I got the new booster shot and it all came back. Along with inflammation in joints and stomach distress. Getting energy back now but look for relapse perhaps.
Good luck.
