Does this reduce or eliminate afib or just treat the symptoms?
I have afib but no symptoms and want to eliminate the afib .
Thanks for your question. This should eliminate AF, just as the more common radio frequency ablation will. A reduction of AF is not going to do much good for anyone, and frankly would suggest a failure on the part of the EP and his/her team to rectify the patient's arrhythmia.
So far, the FDA wants this to be used by a selected group of physicians, mostly those involved in the study just concluded. Their finding is that it is very effective for isolation of the pulmonary veins, which accounts for AF in about 80% of all cases. It isn't quite so good as RF ablation for 'targeted' ablations where specific places are ablated in isolation from the PV.
