Landline phone for dementia patient in Memory Care

Posted by cuyler @cuyler, Dec 15, 2023

What are the pros and cons of purchasing a landline phone for a dementia person in a Memory Care facility? My wife wants to talk to family. Family would like to call in. Cell phones are too complex. Do landline phones risk falls in answering? Your experiences?

My step-mother in memory care had one with a tele-prompter attached. She kept calling us as she would see the last number called or received and think we had called again. Not good.

We removed the phone, she can call out at the nurses station and receive calls, she can't blab for long tho

If anything happens the facility calls us.

Amazon has "picture phones for seniors", a landline phone where you pre-program phone numbers to match photos or printed names. My mom used one successfully.
If you decide to go ahead with a phone, be aware the number of calls she makes may escalate.

Thank you. I will seek more information about picture phones for seniors. I thought there might be some phone technology that might be helpful.
