Has anyone tried CBD oil for PMR?
I was diagnosed with PMR in early August of this year. It all started after I had A TKR in January which was followed by a massive bowel bleed as a reaction to blood thinners.. Then followed a transfusion of iron which sent my iron levels far too high and I ended up with three Pulmonary embolisms in my lung. Now here we a at the end of the year And I have been sick with one thing or another. My immune system is shot. I've been on Prednisolone since August diagnosis staying on 50 mg for a month and then every month thereafter tapering down to hopefully finish but I got to 5 mg two weeks ago and the pains returned worse than ever so now back to 15 mg daily gradually tapering every month by 2.5 mg till ceasing sometime next year. My hair is falling out, I lost an emmense amount of weight and thought of CBD oil without the THC. I would be interested to hear your opinions. Thank you.

@marg47, and all...
I just sent a message about my PMR situation and see you're really suffering. I'm so sorry. I was just diagnosed with PMR, so my experience with CBD/CBG lotion is related to other issues. I do use it on the pain in my hips, hands, arms, shoulders and neck and find a lot of help from applying lotion and body oil with both CBD/CBG. They do help.
I thought it was helping arthritis and other bone and joint issues. But, I now know some of that pain was from PMR and it did help. Anecdotal, but interesting timing. I don't use the oral oil currently, but might.
Also, I have Kenolog cream I use for Sarcoid skin issues and found it really helps my joint and muscle pains, so when they are severe, I use it to get relief. It helps dramatically.
Blessings to you...Elizabeth
I have used the CBD cream which is helpful. I also find that BioFreeze is good, too.
Early on I tried Castor Oil, Tiger Balm, and CBD. If I recall, the Castor Oil worked the best in my opinion but it did not mask the pain. It might have provided a slight benefit. The best pain relief is movement. Bikram Yoga or hot yoga is wonderful. Steam rooms and saunas are very nice as well. Nothing beats regular exericse though.
I tried all types of oils and sprays, including a cbd infused massage oil purchased thru my naprapath. Initially I thought various ones might have helped a bit, esp the cbd one but soon changed my mind. I don’t think any of them helped me except briefly, after first applied. I also tried various massages and pt. All helped a little but overall, I was frustrated as any help was very short-lived. Ultimately, what I think helped was epson salt baths (initially had extremely hard time getting out if tub but figured it out), various types of exercise, hbot, a prmf mat, supplements and a good diet, and of course the prednisone, which I have been off since mid November.
It did nothing for me.
Be careful. I took CBD oil that was not suppose to have THC, and it did affect my reactions. The big problem is these products are not controlled. That is if the CBD has some THC in it you many not know since the quality control is not there It helped me, but I can't take it due to the THC that these products may have.
Thank you very much for your reply it is very much appreciated. I live in Australia, there is CBD oil out there but I wouldn't use it unless it was prescribed by my doctor. I was just interested in anyone's thoughts. Thanks again.
Thank you Elizabeth. Not sure if the kenolog cream is avail in Australia but I will search for it. Thanks again and hope your symptoms improve immensely. Margaret
Thanks for taking the time to respond
@marg47 and @tjmjsjwj good morning -- when I was on suboptimal dose of Prednisone throughout May 2023 - my morning shoulder stiffness was much worse than the hips/thighs. So I could bound out of bed and I took a hot shower and applied "Cause + Medic" cbd pain cream to my shoulders and then I would walk for about 30minutes with binoculars to look for birds close by. SO as tjmsjwj suggested -
"The best pain relief is movement" plus the beneficial effect deriving from the Menthol and Camphor cooling effect- ( both were good distractions for me : ). At that time in my Dx and treatment, by noontime I could raise my arms and put hair in pony tail etc. But every morning was like Groundhog Day- starting all over again until I was bumped up to 30mg Prednisone !
I have reread your initial comment -- perhaps you should check out this Norvatis clinical trial since you have a had a flare up !! - there are 5 locations in Australia !! https://www.novartis.com/clinicaltrials/study/nct05767034
