No A/Fib iWatch alerts in three days.

I had a cardioversion performed on 13 November, and it was effective for four days, then several alerts a day; my cardiologist says that I was back in A/Fib again. My VA Nurse Practitioner put me on Metoprolol just before the cardio procedure. I've been A/Fib alert-free for three days, and the Metoprolol works. One thing the medicine did do was restore my energy level to at least 50%. I'm now a firm believer in the benefit of Metoprolol, which is a 25MG daily.

Metoprolol won't stop afib because it is not an antiarrhythmic, but it will keep your heart rate down if it occurs. At least that is what my EP taught me. Glad it is working for you.

Thanks for your response. It's a possibility that the cardioversion success is a little late; it worked for four days, then back in A/Fib. We'll see.

Hi Treeman,
Have you figured out what triggers your AFIB? With me it was an imbalance of my electrolytes. De-hydration was a constant culprit for me. MSG in carry out food triggered it constantly. You seem to be at a stage where you have it off and on. Try and take note on what foods you eat before each AFIB event. That might help you control it.

I’ve had been diagnosed with A-Fib for years and was given metoprolol for about 3 years now and I’ve been a-fib free since then.
I may get a flutter once in a while but no A-Fib. Metoprolol works well for me and I plan on staying on it.

Did your doctor prescribe an anti-arrhythmic medication, like Flecainide, to have on hand as a pill in the pocket med when you go into AFib? If you treat AFib early, your heart may go back into sinus rhythm. I take 100 mg of Flecainide as soon as I get an Apple Watch AFib alert and my heart returns to normal in a couple of hours after lying down and resting.

I highly recommend Dr John Day's book "AFib Cure" as an invaluable resource. He also has a website and newsletter. You can buy the book on Amazon.
The book is packed with AFib treatment options and lifestyle changes you can make.

I still have occasional AFib, but I am off all daily meds to treat it. I follow Dr Day's guidelines on diet, exercise, stress reduction, etc, after reading the book.

Good luck to you.

I ordered the Kindle edition of Dr. Day's book a few days ago and will read it during my Florida vacation in January. Thanks for the tip. The book has excellent reviews.

Update: I'm now waiting for a Mayo (Rochester) review of my medical records, and I should be getting the ablation procedure in February or March. I'm now down to about two A/Fib alerts on my watch daily!
