Transvaginal Ultrasound Results
I had a transvaginal ultrasound done yesterday and just got the results. My doctor hasn’t responded yet, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the below might possibly mean? Specifically interested in the findings regarding my uterus and left ovary. I did notice the tech spent a lot of time on my left side. Thank you!
UTERUS: Anteverted, measuring 7.8 cm x 3.6 cm x 5.1 cm. Myometrium demonstrates heterogeneity but no discrete mass lesion identified. Nabothian cysts noted in the cervix.
RIGHT OVARY: 2.5 cm x 1.4 cm x 1.8 cm. Color Doppler flow demonstrated. Small follicles present.
LEFT OVARY: 2.9 cm x 1.8 cm x 2.1 cm. Color Doppler flow demonstrated. Complex and irregularly marginated hypoechoic lesion measuring up to 1.4 cm in size, without associated vascularity. This likely reflects an involuting follicle.
Probable involuting follicle arising from the left ovary, 1.4 cm in greatest dimension. This can be reassessed on follow-up examination in 2-3 months to ensure resolution.
No other significant abnormalities identified. No definite etiology for symptoms identified.

Though you're in a hurry to get answers, I suggest waiting for the doctor to explain the radiology report.
Though sometimes nice to be able to see reports, this report is meant to be interpreted by medical professionals. The ultrasound results is only part of diagnosis and treatment plan.
Have you heard back from doctor yet? Do you have a follow up appointment scheduled?

Laurie is right. Wait for the doctor to explain it. (Sorry....I know the feeling of wanting to understand right away and having to wait!)
My GYN/Oncologist said the ultrasounds are only a part of any diagnosis. So, you may need to get more tests and wait more for them, too. Again, sorry to have to say that.
Thank you for your reply. Sometimes I wish patients didn't get test results before the doctors have had time to review! My PCP is currently on vacation so the covering doctor reviewed and sent some notes, which seem to indicate everything is mostly normal and can wait until my doctor returns. I'll get another scan scheduled and then I have a specialist appointment in February.
Well, that is good news! "Mostly normal" sounds like an A- grade to me, and that's pretty darn good!
But it does stink to have to wait so long for the next appointment.
Please keep us posted. I hope that everything goes really well at the next appointment!
Thank you!
