Posted by jeanniebeannie54 @jeanniebeannie54, Oct 25, 2022

I have had 3 months of evenity and my left hip, thigh and buttock are so very painful I can hardly stand, lay down and not walk. Anyone experiencing horrible pain. Help.

Evenity is a one-year drug therapy. Has anyone stopped after a year and what did you experience? My doctor wants me to do Reclast-which I won't because of side effects. I don't know what the alternative is as I hated Prolia and couldn't wait to get off of it in six months. I will not take a yearly injection of anything because, if you have side affects you can't stop the drug and get it out of your system.

M physician said if I didn't want to do Reclast that Fosomax was perfectly fine which is also confirmed by R. Keith McCormick who I trust (author of Great Bones if you aren't familiar with him). I've been on Fosomax for 5 months post Evenity but haven't had another scan yet other than one right after ending Evenity.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will go back to a less intense drug such as Fosomax or Boniva. I took both of them before then did daily self-injections of Forteo, then back to Boniva and then Prolia and Evenity.

I’m on Evenity and being followed by a rheumatologist and an endocrinologist. Both of them want me to go on oral meds after the Evenity.
I also have Keith McCormick’s book and he does say the same. I found that reassuring.

Suga:

I'm not sure the nurse was completely correct. I had such bad back pain after 3 injections that I had to quit the drug. I'm back on Prolia. It was hard to convince the physician and I had to bring my husband with me. The physician printed out information on the Evenity trials for me to read. I noticed it was their labs that were involved in the printed information results. Plus the idea of having a cardiovascular incident didn't make me feel any better.

Thank you for your reply. I am thinking of discontinuing but I would like to get my doctor to concede. It’s such a new drug, a lot of it’s affects are questionable.

Yes! It started around 5th month for me. Was told it wasn't from Evenity as it wasn't totally bilateral. However, struggling through another 6 mos I stopped as I couldn't even bend down to pick something off of the floor without pain. Hips mostly but also wrists, ankles, etc. most joints to some extent. My muscles felt "brittle". That's the only way I can describe it. I am 67 and healthy-walk, hike, mountain bike, ski and eat well. It was definitely the Evenity as I stopped in February and pain subsided over 5 mos. On Fosomax now. I wish I had stopped after 6-7 months as that is when most gains are made and then switched to Fosomax. I declined Reclast as it lasts a year and after Evenity adverse effects I didn't want to inject something that lasts that long. Everyone is different and I am glad for gains but listen to your body as you know it best!

Has anyone had painful pins and needles on the left side of their face and into the scalp after Evenity injections? Was your cheekbone really tender? This happened very slightly after my second injection (I thought it might be sinus issues). After my third injection, it happened again but was 100 times worse and the pain was excruciating!

Hello @arely, I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion titled: "Evenity Pain" - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/evenity-paain/.

I did this so you could meet members discussion evenity pain, like @lauratys, @susanfalcon52 and @suga have all discussed their experiences on Evenity.

@arely, you mentioned you had pain right away but it is continually getting worse? Have you discussed this issue with your provider and did they have any thoughts?
