I had these plugs for eye dryness that started this year. That night I swear one came out. It was a tiny brown stem. I’m not sure whether the plug helps because I still have dry eyes. It gets much worse with allergies. I still need constant lubricants and use Xiidra too
mtpeony, I know you are tired of hearing from me. My doctor tried to remove my temporary plugs at the 3 week mark (That is when they are usually dissolved) as one was almost dissolved and the other was not. He could not remove them at this point and I go back August 1st as they will probably be completely dissolved. I am hoping and praying that yours will dissolve soon and you will get relief. I personally would try a different eye doctor and get a 2nd opinion if I were you. I know this has to be miserable. Eyes are so sensitive. My heart goes out to you. Praying for you to get relief.
Not having them removed due to any problem. The reason I was trying to get them removed was because, I went for my 3 week checkup and they should have dissolved by them....but they hadn't. Doctor was going on vacation for a month and I was hoping to get the permanent ones in before he left. He said he could try and remove the temporary ones and put in the permanent ones, but he couldn't remove them. I will have to wait until August and hopefully they will be fully dissolved by then. They have been wonderful for me!
Ugh! I have a lot of allergic reactions so Opthomologist recommended the dissolvable collagen plugs that dissolve over a period of up to 6 months. I am in the rare category of allergic reaction to the plugs and my Dr. states that they can't be removed without risky surgery. I have read about possible irrigation to push them out. I woondered if anyone has had to have them removed by a different method? Irrigation?

Hello--tcokeefe--did you have them removed or did they fall out?? Were they the dissolvable ones?
They fell out on their own unbeknownst to me. The eye doctor found one of them floating underneath my lower eyelid! They are titanium.

One of mine just fell out, the other got infected and had to be removed. I had the tear duct on my bad eye permanently closed.
my opthomologist removed mine!---after a few days of discomfort, he flushed them out.
I’m so hoping they will help with dry eyes (Sjogrens) thanks for your response.
Yes, Nuero Opthomologist
Could not remove one, was in my tear duct stuck!
