Covid-19 Quad muscle pain

Posted by Ludwig Habada @lhabada, Dec 9, 2022

Has anyone experienced issues with pain in both quad muscles after contracting covid? My care giver told me that there has not been enough time and research to figure out what remedy there is, if any to this problem. Not only do I have pain at all times, but my balance has not been the same since! Your thoughts?

I have a lot of muscle pain and weakness. I try to massage them with a foam roller or simple stretching. It helps a little. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Does it get worse with exercise?

No, it does not get worse with exercise. I started muscle therapy just after posting this. I do the therapy now at home and after 11 months I find I am able to go up and down stairs a little better and my balance seems to be better also. I have been diligent about doing the therapy 3 times a week. My regiment is as follows:
1. Chair Squats - 3 x 8
2. Leg Extension - 3 x 10 (30#)
3. Straight leg raises - 3 x 20
4. Stair step-up/downs - 3 x 8 with my left and 3 x 8 with my right.
Thanks for your concerns.

Thanks for posting the regimen. I need to get back with since completing PT. It really helped me.

At night, I get this weird sensation in the injured areas of my knees/thighs that I can only describe as “grumbling” under the skin, That, and the general pain keeps me awake at night as well.

I also have quad pain. It happens when I’m sitting, standing, or walking. The word grumble describes it perfectly. It hurts like an ache but it feels like it is gurgling/grumbling with pain. Also radiates from one specific horizontal line — as if someone drew a line across the middle of my quads. After COVID my muscle texture has completely changed— I used to be very muscular and strong especially in my legs.

Thank you for sharing your symptom. I don’t feel so alone or silly now when I share this info with my drs. Wishing you healing.

I will try and keep this succint. I contracted Covid March 2020. Was not hospitlized but was in the Emergency Dept. I recovered after a 3 week stint, very ill. I then contracted Covid again in Aug 2023. About 3 months afterwards my legs felt like I had run a marathon, that feeling that you get when lactic acid is released from the muscles. I, also, had serious respiratory issues and elevated heart rate that would be in near 200. Breathing was rapid. This would happen after any kind of mild exertion. I ended up in hospital in April 2024 and the diagnosis was questionable. Was released after 2 days. Since Aug of 2024 I started to experience weakness in legs and pain that is constant, especially where my thigh connect to my knees. My knees are so painful at night that it interrupts my sleep. I have a weighted blanket on my knees, The only thing that helps is heat and weight. I now use a rollator. I lurch, rather than walk. I have no balance, My legs don't go where I want them to and I have a hard time getting them started. I am working with the VA long covid clinic in Portland, OR. No treatment yet discussed.
