@parus

I now have even more pain from scar tissue after the placement of a VNS which was removed in 2010. The pain this causes is not at all pleasant. Pain is something that many of us live with on a daily basis. I also have other pain issues. Suck (a term I abhor) it up and do not darken the door of another pain specialist nor a doctor of any type as they do not want to lose their lives of luxury. Makes good sense.
Why are there pain doctors when they can do nothing?? Currently believing doctors are useless. Pain messes with my mind.

Except as a Physician working for/at a hospital, few provide health coverage for "White Coat Insurance" and if retired and/or not working, very much has to be
paid from your pocket for lab., consult, treatment,etc. Very few doctors show professional courtesy as member of "Medical Fraternity" and as a senior healthcare provider. Hardly there is any insurance coverage for middle class, but, costs being quite high. I am a SSA-Medicare beneficiary, but there is no
coverage, outside USA , as I am presently in India (where even less is more).What can I say, that I hardly got sick , with total Insurance (2-3) in USA?

REPLY

Neither chiropractor nor Medicare in India; would need to come to USA for help with my degenerative disc disease.Consulting 2 spine-specialists , did not
offer any relief, except a pain doctor , who advised pain relievers, physical therapy and nerve block as a blind approach ( avoided by my cardiologist's advice).
May try to work with neurosurgeon, if I save some funds to pay for ESI, with guidance from a US-specialist doctor (while in India, being conservative).

I live in the US have DDD and can get no help. Doctors here are terrified to prescribe pain meds.

@peach414144 I just saw this from you...must admit it is laughable as to being sent to pain specialist. the abusers of pain meds seem to have won and most were not even in REAL pain only looking for a high. Ludicrous...

I live in us too and have been going thru same thing with my mom. Keep calling until you find a dr who will listen to you. We are doing this exact same thing, go to the website for board certified pain specialists and find your state then do some interviewing. Not all pain Drs are specialists and I've found just because they are specialists does not mean they specialize in the pain from a specific disorder. I told my mom we are interviewing dr.'s they are not interviewing her.

I see a pain specialist-once was an anesthesiologist (retired), now a neurologist and pain specialist. His directions are to walk. I get trigger point injections every 3 months which are a numbing agent (allergic to cortisone) that lasts for 3 days. I am in a terrible place and have no other options. Does not help having depression so pain is caused by depression (when I do not have a history of pain with depression) and talk to therapist who says there is nothing she can do for physical pain.
Feeling like a useless person who no longer deserves any quality of life because I am old and depressed. Or is it because of those abusing their medications have made it impossible for those of needing help cannot get help???
Sick world I find myself living in!!
YES, I AM FRUSTRATED!!

@ Dear Parus, yes, frustrated is one of the words that fit after you have seen a doctor who does not really care. Who changes the words I say on his write up. Who "plays the game" to "look good" so he can dismiss you with a smile. And, to do this as fast as he can to get to the next patient to make more money at your expense. Sometimes you may be lucky and find a sincere doctor who cares. BUT: think of this. WHAT CAN HE DO WHEN: There needs to be more RESEARCH work done by the doctors on how to realign the spine, to remove, replace, tighten or loosen whatever needs to be done. Who and where are the medical persons working on this? I am only a layman but think, after the spine is properly positioned there should be LESS PAIN AND THE USAGE OF OPIOIDS. wHY IS THIS NOT BEING WORKED ON? Please excuse me if I am wrong as I have said before I am just a layman. (But a curious one). A fellow sufferer with spine, arthritis, autoimmune,inflammatory, anemia, etc., etc., etc. WHERE AND WHO ARE DOING THE NECESSARY RESEARCH?

@ dear parus, I know as you say you are depressed and feel useless and old. Being an 80 year old woman who is in the same boat as you I do understand. When the pain and inflammation are present I lay there in a world of hurt waiting for it to leave. (It has a mind of it's own). Then when it leaves I can live better again for a while until "it" comes back. I understand and there are others who also care for you and I. Until the next time, see ya later, Peach414144
