Vitrectomy for cloudy vitreous and floaters
I have been very nearsighted most of my life, had clear lense replacement surgery 2 years ago which went very well and improved my vision. But, for many years I have had cloudy vitreous and floating globs that obscure my vision, making driving, reading, and other activities very challenging. A retina specialist told me I should have a vitrectomy, but I'm concerned about long-term side effects such as glaucoma, dry eye, etc. should I be concerned about these at all? I'd really like to know others' experiences with vitrectomy. As much as I trust my doctor, I really would like others' thoughts on vitrectomy. Seeing like this makes just about everything very difficult. Thank you.

Hello. I don't understand why you are not able to recommend a doctor? I thought it was one of the advantages of sharing information here.?
Hello back, that was not my understanding. I will never divulge my Dr.'s name or anyone else without their permission.
OK-- would you be able to ask? Most drs are glad to have patients recommend them highly!!
I had a vitrectomy a couple of months ago. Before the vitrectomy my vision was 20/50 in that eye. Just had an eye test and am now back to 20/20. Dry eye after the surgery has now resolved and no longer an issue. I suggest using a preservative free best quality eye drops if needed. They can be irritating to the eye if you use lesser quality drops. Your doc can tell you which he/she recommends. I recommend Systane preservative free.
Hello Teacher502. Thanks for answering my questions last year. I'm still considering vitrectomy for my severe floaters/vitreous opacity. I'm curious, a year later, if you are still happy with your results. And if there are any long-term effects from your vitrectomy. Thank you.
Yes! I have absolutely no regrets, and would highly recommend this simple surgery to everyone.
Forgot to add...long term effects
Clear vision
Eye doctor says my eyes are very healthy and look like the eyes of a 20 year old (I am 69).
Easier to drive at night.
No bad side effects at all.....you won't regret doing this.
Thank you! Good to know. I had read studies saying it may cause Glaucoma, but my retina specialist denied this is the case.
