Chronic Thoracic Pain

Posted by turkey00 @turkey00, Nov 7, 2023

I have thoracic spine and into the muscles/ribs, right side only. I have been seeking every alternative over the last 20 years and no luck with anything. I've done every injection, MRI's, all the alternative stuff. They says its not fibromyalgia, lupus, lymes disease, or autoimmune. I have tried lots of different meds to no avail. I can do a muscle relaxer, ibuprofen and narcotic. I went as far as a spinal chord stimulator with no luck there. I still have it, but it doesn't help. I feel its really muscle related. The pain interferes with my daily life and gets me very depressed somedays...

Can someone tell me what thoracic back pain feels like? Also Radiculopathy? I posted on here October 22nd but have had no replies yet. My post was long but it's a long history. I don't know if I have issues because of my gallbladder being removed, or if it's adhesions from that surgery, or a thoracic issue as a physical therapist said. I have had several diagnosis but that's all they give me, a diagnosis and sorry...there is not much you can do for this. I have never known anyone with these issues so I can't compare symptoms.

My 14 year old son has suffered with chronic rib, chest and back pain for many months. Specialist appointments are still months away. In the meantime, we read Rachel Zoffness's Pain Management Workbook. She's a pain management specialist https://www.zoffness.com/about and we found some very helpful videos on her resources page, especially the video by pain scientist Lorimer Mosely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwd-wLdIHjs. This helped us to understand that my son's original pain was tied to a skeletal defect in his legs (that's he's since had surgery for) but his body sensed pain and created it elsewhere when there was likely nothing wrong with the underlying tissue. The pain is real but we're re-educating ourselves to understand how chronic pain develops. It's a worthwhile deep dive. Wish more physicians referred to this instead of just saying "yoga and mindfulness should be helpful in managing the pain." I wish everyone with chronic pain experiences a day of peace, and then another, and another.

If nothing else has worked have you tried acupuncture?

Have you tried Laser therapy? I have thoracic spondylosis, and I go every two weeks and it does seem to help.

I have had CTP since my open heart surgeries. I had 2, 5 months apart. The first was for aortic dissection, the second for aortic root replacement and CABG.

I have been in pain since, that was 2012. Between that and everything else that goes w connective tissue disease, I'm in constant pain. No one understands. It's like what is going to burn today.

I have had like 14 surgeries. Mostly ortho. Others not. It seems like wen you fix one thing the pain migrates.
But the constant is my chest.
I use Medical Marijuana it's the only thing that can keep it away for any length of time. I hate opiates. I feel like they do too much damage in other areas.
I was on them long-term for a while. It's just too hurtful to my body. I don't have to take mass quantities of laxatives or softener and drink a gallon of water a day.
You are not alone. Hugs

For me thoracic back pain is like a burning or like tearing of the line that goes from my bra strap mid back sometimes up to my neck.

I deal with the same exact t thing. All this time I thought it was a horrific auto accident back in 1989(?).
Thank you for sharing this.
I am Blessed with being amadextrous. Please excuse the grammar. I'm using the voice text Method. I have been using Walmart's equate ultra strength pain. Relieving cream all over my back of my neck. My right side down to my my fingertip lately and it does relieve me. I also have learned from experience that I just have to slow down and even stop my activities sometimes. I don't think there's any real solution to this. Except for praying that it doesn't get worse. I'm a Christian, may God bless you.

Hope this picture helps identify where the thoracic part of the spine is.

Exactly.
Someone in the discussion didn't know what "thoracic" was, so I added the diagram to clarify where that area is.
