@meadows I can relate - That "funny taste" came before my diagnosis, and after many doctors, the ID doc told me it CAN be present when you have pseudomonas (which I did.) Later, when I was on antibiotics, I had terrible altered taste, and any tomato or acid food would give me lingering metallic taste for up to a day. Finally, the meds I take to control my asthma sometimes cause weird tastes, or interact weirdly with certain foods or beverages.
Does any of these describe your experience?
Sue
I have it with pseudomonas Oryzihabitans, like a salty oyster, thick and gooey. Taking cipro
How do you know you have it?
Intake sputum sample Sent to Jewish National Hospital, for my upcoming visit. My ID doctor is treating it for 2 weeks with Cipro.
Oh….I don’t have the symptoms I’ve read for MAC lung. I have had the bad taste though. Was diagnosed as post Covid syndrome, though we’re not sure.
Thanks for writing. What is pseudomonas? I can't seem to pinpoint specifically what triggers it. It makes sense since MAC-lung is an infection.
Pseudomonas is another of the opportunitistic infections that don't bother most people. But they love to colonize in our damaged lungs. They are treated with several different antibiotics depending on sensitivity, and are detected by a sputum culture.
Have you ever had a sputum culture done?
Sue
No - not at that point, at least not yet. Thanks so much for responding - appreciated.
