Hello. New on deck. My 2nd Covid in 08/2021 is where I seemed to have gained my soon to be Post Covid issues and like you... thetevare many. Question: Do any of you folks have or have had issues with word finding/retrieval? Its become so much part of my day to day life. Do you have anything that has helped you? TIA

Yes ! Definite issues with word retrieval. I had a very rich vocabulary prior to Covid, now I search for words, especially when tired or stressed.

THIS IS ME TOO!!!
It is so depressing. When I have complained/presented this to some medical professionals, they have said things like, “what are the consequences of not remembering a word? Like are there any dangers involved?”

What a low bar?!? I’m a psychotherapist! My work is all about rich, descriptive language!

Also when i know what i want to say but but cant find the word
if that makes sense?

Makes complete sense to me.

Trying the Yale study guanfacine and nac protocol. On week 5, I think it’s helping? Hard to say when you are experiencing memory issues, eh? Did some memory tests on some site at the beginning so I have a baseline?

Finally have gotten a neuropsych exam after months of trying to get that set up.

Just found this group!

I have been blessed with a great sense of humor. I just laugh it off and call it COVID Brain.
My recall worsened after Covid. Some days are better than others. Prayers to all...

Yes, I have word finding issues mostly now only when tired. The long COVID clinic doc at OHSU recommended mindfulness 15 min 2 times per day. I tried it and it helped a lot! I was working my brain with puzzles and such but he said to do the opposite and rest my brain. He said there have been several studies showing mindfulness and meditation to improve memory and word finding in long COVD patients.

Yes tired or stressed augments word issues, connecting the dots to reason things out, and concentration on task at hand. I don't perceive making much progress, but I remain hopeful & do buy supplements that others have had success with.
I'm not able to return to aerobics ,etc. Stamina is not good. But hey, here I still am and counting every blessing!!!

Just discovered this; surprised there aren't more of us here. Tested + for Covid in March; typical LC symptoms since May. I've always been a busy gal, but over the past months have learned that PACING works best for me for the bone crushing fatigue that follows activity; I try to NOT push through, learn from the new limits, take breaks, etc. For me the neurological stuff has been brain fog, inability to do simple math equations, forgetfulness, inability to multitask, word retrieval... "tip of the tongue" (may find it later?)... but also ... just nowhere to be found, that name, that word. I've been a meditator for many years, now I find that pacing works best for my mental fatigue as well... I take a deep breath, relax and just breathe (deeply, diaphragmatically) for 10 minutes... and try to give my brain a rest. There's so much worry and research and work involved in caring for ourselves (and my doctors are not very helpful in this) ... I think well-meaning folks (medical and otherwise) who don't have this condition think we just need to try harder, exercise a little more (our bodies, our brains), have some more testing done (!) and all will be well. IMHO, most of them really don't know much about what helps, what works... and research hasn't connected with the clinical world yet, at least not mine. I'm grateful I found this forum...I'm learning a lot from others who have actually been there. I have found validation and support here...as well as good information and encouragement. Good luck to us all ...

My guess that meditation is helpful is that it activates the cingulate cortex. In my rudimentary understanding of brain structures as they relate to treating PTSD, I have learned that a strong Cingulate cortex helps regulate through self correction. Meditation is helpful because we work the cingulate cortex: our mind drifts and we bring it back to some focal point. If you can do a meditation without brain drift, the positive effects of the meditation diminish.

Since cognition issues like focus, attention, word retrieval, etc are a correction function: this not that? It makes sense to me that meditation might feel relaxing but it’s actually quite active but without judgment?

Yes Siree!! After having COVID again, I have trouble finding my words and it's embarrassing. I try and laugh it off and say, "Hold, on, it will come. I have COVID brain." When I wait a few seconds, it comes back to me. Brain Fog & forgetfulness is a sign of Long Covid. It does get better. Try and do a crossword puzzle a day or other mental games to keep your mind sharp. God Bless You!

You are not alone...it's very frustrating.

Word retrieval is the worst for me. Drives me crazy. I do word games everyday. Have long Covid for 24 months. I think it’s gotten better but s l o w l y.
