Sudden hearing loss, tinnitus, pressure but not while lying down
Six months ago I experienced sudden hearing loss in my left ear and diminished hearing in the right one. No definite event, just suddenly sound of screaming cicadas in both ears out of the blue. The ent I saw put me on 20 day prednisone regimine (oral) but like most everyone else, that didn't get rid of tunnitus nor bring my hearing back. Had the MRI which came back "clean" (nurses word) so went to audiologist and was fit with a cross fit hearing aid set up. That does give me hearing on my left side and amplifies hearing on right. However still have severe tinnitus in left ear and constant pressure on both ears. Feel and sound like a constant head cold....all day long.
But, when I lie down in bed at night the tinnitus quiets and pressure goes away!
Until I'm up and start moving around for the day. Does anyone else experience this??

Odd that the tinnitus goes in bed at night as it usually becomes more apparent when there is no other noise. When I first had it I remember getting out of bed to see what truck was parked running its engine on the street as I had that kind of noise. Unfortunately there was nothing there and I figured it was tinnitus and it is now more like cicadas and I have learned to mostly ignore it.
I think is kind of odd too. I've mentioned it to both my ent's nurse during history gathering(have only seen my current one once) and at least once to my audiologist over the months, but neither seemed to jump on that fact. Going to tell my audiologist, more emphatically, at my Nov appt and see if he has any thoughts. At least I do get the comfort of relief while in bed! Thanks for responding!
I have been suffering with eustation tube problems for 3 yrs. When I lay down the pressure goes away but when I get up in the morning in a few minutes the ear clog and pressure are back. So far no tinnitus. I had ear tube ballooning done but that didn’t help. I’m now getting allergy shots for past18 moths. Still no improvement. Help!!!
Tinnitus is very common. I found this information from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) to be as informative as any I've seen elsewhere.
https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/tinnitus Tinnitus is being researched a great deal now but so far there are no cures. There are some things we can do to minimize it. And some things we can avoid that may or may not cause it. I hope this information is helpful.
