Yogurt with live active cultures safe to eat?

Posted by myringo @myringo, Oct 28, 2023

I bought chaboni yogurt that has live active cultures is it ok to eat 3 months post liver transplant? I don’t get to see dietician til January but have so many food questions. I was told no activia but I don’t know why? Thanks everyone

Probiotics are contraindicated for those who are on immunosuppressants. I do eat yogurt occasionally, but not a lot. Never the capsules though. They are way too high a dose. Might want to ask your pharmacist. They may know.

Hello @myringo
kidney transplant team informed me to stay away from Probiotics as it has active cultures in it.. also any vaccine that has active cultures ( not sure how to express it) cannot be administered until you clear with transplant team.
However I have been regularly eating plain Dannon Yogurt ( which does not have any active cultures) from the last two years. No issues.

Good morning
I'm 3 years post transplant and eat Activia on a regular basis. I was told yogurt was ok but NO to stuff like Align.
Congratulations on your transplant

If you want to avoid something with an active culture, I suggest you move to Iowa. Just kidding....

Post pancreas transplant 18 years. Never heard to avoid probiotics or active cultures. However, on my own I tend to avoid supplements, vitamins & minerals, OTC meds, foods … that are supposed to strengthen and support the immune system because being post transplant I am immune suppressed on purpose, duh!
