Recommendations on specific clinics for long COVID

Posted by kentkemmerling1949 @kentkemmerling1949, Oct 27, 2023

I am totally frustrated with the options for getting treated for Long COVID. I have been unable to basically walk since Jan. 2021 and have tried everything I can think of to improve with no help. I know long COVID is a new disease and there is not much known about it, but I am ready to try anything. I tried getting many, many tests, a ton of physical therapy and nothing has helped. I think it has to do with my inner ear and when I get stuffed up, my balance gets even worse. Any suggestions and specific recommendations on doctor or clinics to try???

Mayo Clinic in Rochester. They have been running a Long COVID recovery program for over two years. I went in August, went through tons of testing. Built a plan based on Mayo's working theory of Long COVID recovery and at 2 months my symptoms are breaking up.

I looked into that a few months ago. It was my understanding that they only took Minnesota residents. How do you go about getting an appointment? How long did it take until you were contacted? Any recommendations would be appreciated. I am desperate at this point.

The University of Florida’s COVID Restore Clinic is good. They do virtual appointments. Dr. Estores has me on a plan that I am slowly seeing improvements.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester has several LC programs. You will need to apply for the program that you want. One of the programs is only available to Minnesota residents, but there is a LC Rehabilitation program (12 weeks) that is virtual. I applied for the virtual appointment and heard back from them within a week. The scheduling was about 2 months out at the time. I was able to go in September and have just about to start the virtual program. Hope this helps!

Go to the MayoClinic website. There is a place to REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT.
You will be directed to a questionnaire. That will be evaluated by a group of doctors who determine if you are eligible for the Covid program.
You can actually even call MayoClinic and tell them you are requesting an appointment & they will explain what you do.

My cardiologist here in Charleston SC with Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has some relationships with Mayo and Vanderbilt. He handled the referral and recommendation and Mayo connected within a couple of weeks.

It's a big plan consisting of many elements and is customized to me based on the results of testing and consultation. It consists of prescriptions, supplements, meditation, acupuncture, exercise, rest periods, sleep quality, etc. Well over 30 elements that I am executing on.

I go to Johns Hopkins Long COVID Clinic. You have to be referred by a physician. They have been wonderful. I live 2 hours away from Baltimore so this was the most convenient place to go. I have had other experience with Johns Hopkins and am/was still very satisfied with their level of care. I saw a cardiologist. I am working with a Physical Therapist who is wonderful and knowledgeable. It is so wonderful to be somewhere that knows what is happening with my health and has plans of how to deal with it. Everything I have is non-curable but symptoms can be mitigated through medicine, medical equipment and physical therapy. It took 3 years for me to be diagnosed and get to this clinic. It has been a life saver.
