Anyone using Nicotine patches for Long Covid?
There is lots of discussion on Facebook Long Covid forums about nicotine patches helping with long covid symptoms after a few days of adjustment to the patches. Any thoughts on this?

My neighbor mentioned that to me just a few days ago. Now I see your post. She says she does the gum.
I'm not a tabaco user so I wondered how it may negatively impact me. I already struggle terribly with sleeping.
The nicotine gum has helped me the most with the long COVID fatigue. The gum is not cheap though. I use the name brand fruit flavor 4 mg, to me it tastes minty, I think my taste buds are still off.
Are you using the gum continuously? Do you feel like the gum has led to any long term improvements?
The amazing thing about the study with the patches is that after a few weeks use people were basically cured of their long covid symptoms.
I have been using the gum continuously. 6 pieces a day of 4mg on average. In the last 6 months I have gone from 30-40% to 70-80%. I am also taking a lot of vitamins, supplements, and Claritin has helped me.
Hi there,
Please remember that nicotine in any form is a stimulant. It is possible to take too much.
The adhesive in the patch gave me an allergic reaction. Buy the smallest quantity to start. I spent like $40 for 10 minutes of patch time.
Here's hoping we all feel better soon!
Started 7 mg 24 hour patch one week ago on planned 2 week trial regimen. No symptoms - good or bad - as yet. I fluctuate between 60% and 80% of my norm (probably average of 75% most days) prior to Covid hospitalization in January of 2024. Was on ventilator for 5 weeks, lost from 190 to 160, etc. I will post again when I complete my intervention.
Thank you so much for this. Best wishes to you, and please do let us all know how it goes.
I started 7mg patch yesterday. Feeling much better today, although arm is a little sore near patch. My doctor said another patient was able to return to work after a few days, after being off for months.
I would love to think this was a cure. I have tried it three times and got too sick to continue. I’m considering gum because I’ve only tried patches. Please post your experience if you’ve tried.
I am so dizzy and sick it’s hard for me to add more symptoms to my long list. I’m afraid it just isn’t for me.
Praying for help.
I looked for scholarly articles on this and found the one that is apparently the source of all the interest. There were only five patients in the study. All five showed marked improvement, beginning within a week. The authors describe their method, which included the patients keeping a symptom journal, starting four days before using the patches. They stress that while their results were dramatic, multiple randomized, double-blind studies would be necessary to confirm effectiveness.
I've been keeping a daily symptom journal for months, so I
started yesterday morning with a 7 mg patch . I felt significantly less fatigued and more mentally alert, but wondered if it was a placebo effect. This morning, I was as tired as usual and took a 2-hr nap after breakfast, as I often do. Now that I'm up again, I feel about the same as always. I'll report back when a week is up.
