Hi, my name is Bob 58 yo and I live in Rancho Mirage, CA. I was in a skiing accident 16 years ago and did a lot of damage to my back. Have had 4 surgeries over this time with the last being a spinal fusion from T1 to pelvis. Have been on opiods and gabapentin for 2 years to help manage incredible relentless pain. Had to stop working in March 2014. My mental state is very poor. Very depressed. I keep telling myself that this is not going to kill me. Others are in as much pain but not going to make it. My spouse is awesome and supportive. But I feel hopeless often and a burden. Has anyone else been to this point?

So true that others don't understand. They want you to suffer silently and think you can pray etc and it will go away.
Judy

My name is Janie. I have a number of problems health wise. I have osteoarthritis. Now the doctor figures I have myo facia syndrome and fibromyalgia . I also have three stents. Two in the heart one in the leg. Now I have four narrowings. Two in each leg. I do get very depressed as I am a very social person. But I have spent this last year in so much pain, I wasn't able to go out very much. I am on oxycocet and a stronger med along with that. Nothing seems to work. I've had saline injections in my legs. Still no relief. I have started self hypnosis which seems to relax the muscles and nerves and gives some relief.

Wow and I think I have it bad. I fell last week and now have more back pain and shoulder pain. I am going to ask my doctor for a whole body scan. I want to know just what problems with my back and shoulders. I have significant relief with my pain medications. I take 100mgs of morphine twice a day and up to 60mg of oxycodon. When sitting I have very little pain. My husband has to help me dress because of my back and arms. He is so good about it. I'm blessed to have him.

Judy

The doctors have given me no name for the knee pain but I believe it and the shoulder arthritis. I've had a cortisone shot in one shoulder that did nothing for me. I then went to another doctor who specializes in sport injuries. His shot worked wonderfully. I have an apt for the right arm I reinjured in a fall. That injury hurts mostly at night and is very bad. I'm trying to discover the position to have it in at night. I walk with a walker in the house (one upstairs and another downstairs) and have a walker at each of my children's homes. I have to use a scooter for any out of the house errands or travel. Thank god I have one. I've use it in South America, Mexico, US, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, on cruises, etc. A lot of my pain is just general all over pain.

@jeriliz

Hi everyone,
My name is Jeri. I have a degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and scoliosis. I had very unsuccessful shoulder surgery last year that left me in more pain than I had before. I also fell and broke my hip three years ago and have some residual pain from that. There's more but not for now.

Hello @jeriliz, thank you for sharing a bit about yourself with the other members of the chronic pain group. Here a few conversations I think you may want to check out as they have members who have discussed having degenerative disc disease:

- Harrington rod and low back pain, http://mayocl.in/2njBBFH
- Herniated disc pain, what helps? http://mayocl.in/2m4lRFF

In those discussions you will meet other members who also have degenerative disc disease.

My husband is so good to help out to. I just get feeling so bad for him that he has to do things that I used to do. Every time I go to the doctor they find something else. Gets very depressing. So I try not to say to much so I don't depress him. The doctors want me to move more but some days is so hard to get moving. I do push myself. I refuse to give in to this pile of medical problems. Have you tried acupuncture for your shoulder Judy? I hurt mine about five years ago. Couldn't move it without spasms. I found that helped me very much.

REPLY

Judy I know that pain. You are afraid to move. I had that pretty bad for eight months. I never used so many pain creams. Lol. The drug store was happy, kept them in business lol. All joking aside, I hope you start feeling better soon. That pain is terrible. Hope the doctor can help you out.

Hi Justin. I have posted and talked with one member. I'm thinking I did that wrong. I apologize as I've never belonged to a site like this before. Im lost. Maybe this site is to advanced for me. Im older and not to good at this. This seems complicated to me. I thought you go to chronic pain site. Hit it and start a conversation. Again. Sorry if I did it wrong.
