Covid vax out of pocket
Hello everyone, hope my note finds you well. I have a question for group…I live in Charlotte NC…and at this time of year with children back in school, travelers returning from European vacations , flu season pon us….and neighbors and citizens no longer masking…I have that slight dread of “please not me this year”….so I can only do what I can do.
I took my RSV vax 2 weeks ago, and yesterday my flu shot…while at my PCP office, I asked about the present day Covid booster. I was told insurance does not cover it and it will cost over $300. Has anyone else encountered a charge so high for Covid booster?
To date I have had 6 Covid shots from beginning 2021…and been protected and not had Covid although family members did. I still mask in grocery stores, drug stores, and shopping malls. I am stable and well and want to remain in good health.
Did anyone else have to out of pocket for Covid vax.
Thanks
Regina

I found this on the CDC website:
Most Americans can still get a COVID-19 vaccine for free. For people with health insurance, most plans will cover COVID-19 vaccine at no cost to you. People who don’t have health insurance or with health plans that do not cover the cost can get a free vaccine from their local health centers; state, local, tribal, or territorial health department; and pharmacies participating in the CDC’s Bridge Access Program.
That's crazy! And hopefully wrong. I don't know what type of health insurance you have, but check with your local pharmacies- most are giving COVID vaccines free with insurance. Good luck!
Thank you Irene & Donna, you both are correct! I called my insurance company and they confirmed that the Covid vaccine is covered just as a flu vaccine. The nurse at my PCPs office was uninformed plus my PCP office wanted to charge an “administration fee” of $100.
I made my appointment at Walgreens for this coming Saturday.
Thanks for caring.

And to anyone else having this issue - Medicare covers your vaccines. And if you have an Advantage Plan, the provider is required to cove administration.
