Zoloft with Wellbutrin ( Depression)

Hello,

Is anybody using Zoloft with Wellbutrin for depression? How is your experience? Does it help? Any side effects?

Thanks a lot!

I tried both of those and the side effects were just worse than the depression and anxiety I was having. I started having uncontrollable thoughts that were very bad. So I stopped taking them. Doctors think that Prozac is OK. But I'm tried of taking so many drugs. Now I'm on Klonopin for my anxiety and it helps but it's only supposed to be taken for a few weeks and I had no idea about that. I've been on it now 20 years and because I don't abuse it I can't do rehab to get off the drug. I'm stuck with my current situation. I can only rely on God to heal me. He made me so he knows how to heal me.

Hello, @lex888 , do you mind sharing more about why you are considering these medications, and whether you have tried any other psychoactive medications before?
I'm sorry I can't offer you my own experience in taking these, as I never have. Part of what scares me away from antidepressants is that it can be very difficult to quit them.

I’ve been on both for long periods of time, though not together.

I found a low dose (I don’t remember how much) of Zoloft that I found to be sedating but not troublesome. I was on it for about five years.

Wellbutrin I’ve been on for fifteen years at the highest possible dose, 450mg. I found it to be a powerful stimulant with a bunch of side effects. It is such a stimulant that I have known people who would crush it up and snort it, they called it poor man’s coke.

Personally I will not take another psych med until I have addressed three critical areas; diet, exercise and stress reduction.

If your doctor will not help you crafted a plan to optimize these three first line recommendations, find one that will.

In my opinion medication should be the last resort not the first, except in the case of emergencies.

Jump on Google and type in the names of both meds. You will have more information than you can possibly read. I focus on peer reviewed academic research, though even that can be biased if sponsored by big pharma.

These meds are powerful and the docs give them out like candy on Halloween.

It is always a traded off of symptoms versus side effects. I wish I’d done my research two decades ago.

Be well and keep advocating for yourself.

Hello, Out of bad luck , some events in my life made me depressed. I tried non medical treatments but it doesn't really work. I thought maybe I can start take Wellbutrin. Would it be hard to quit Wellbutrin after few months?

Thanks for sharing your experience with me ! This will help me to make a better decision . Did you take both of them at the same time ?

I don't know whether you would have withdrawals after a few months on bupropion (Wellbutrin). I don't know what your experience with the medication would be, since we each react differently to different substances.

These are strong medicines.

Many doctors and other health care professionals, sadly, do not have a lot of knowledge about how difficult it can be to stop these drugs. It is something you have to experience to understand, and most of them have never experienced it.

These medications literally change our brain chemistry. If your situation is dire enough that that is absolutely necessary, I can understand considering them.
Some good advice someone shared with me once is that for any medication, it is best to use the lowest effective dose. Many antidepressants and other medications do not reach full effectiveness until weeks or months after they are started. If I were to take one of these I would choose one at a time and take the lowest dose possible.

Depression is sometimes a normal response to sad and stressful events.

I hate wellbutrin. I was taking it at night and it made me nervous.
