Good compression sports bra suggestion

Posted by taprep @taprep, Oct 7, 2023

Hi, Can anyone suggest a good compression sports bra to wear after surgery? Bought few front open (1 zip and 1 with hooks) but it’s zip one is not that easy to put on. I will be provided some binder to wear immediately after surgery but I also want an extra one.

I bought a couple from Target and Walmart. Zip ups. I also went on Amazon and bought a white compression bra. BRABIC ZIP Front Closure- #28.00
You must get ones that fit. I went easy with a couple at first and it gave my new fake boobs space to retain fluid. I had gone if for a follow-up and they got me an ultrasound. I was finally told I may have to get the drains reinserted. YIKEs!!!! Fluid was there. Oh yes, I forgot to say i had 2 have 2 aspirations to remove the fluid. It says in my record i refused the drain and would compress. Compression keeps it all nice and tight! Once I got the bras I ended up having to stuff them inside for tighter compression around the sides. I do not recall anyone telling me that without the compression bra, I could have fluid sneak in. Well, my stuffing worked in those bras. You do not want to spend a fortune, you will not wear them long, if you have good follow-ups with the DR. after a number of weeks. I had one expander on one side, and all this was not required. Not until I got the surgeries 10 months later.

Thanks for the details. I also got Brabic from Amazon but with hooks, will look for zip one too. I ordered one with zip but it felt that its difficult to put on (specially after surgery) .

I was the most happy with a compression bra from Prairie Wear…it was comfortable, provided the needed compression, and had “pockets” that additional compression pads could be put into depending on where you need compression. A little pricey, but well worth it. I bought one that I could use as a sports bra after the initial healing. Good luck!!

Thanks … did you order directly from Prairie Wear site- I see HuggerPrima. Additional pads that comes with it or need to buy separately

I like the idea you can use it later. My implants are not so big, so I stuck with not as big an expense and stuffed myself. Seeing this one had pockets or that reason. made it a good choice for a lot of reasons.

Yes, I ordered directly from Prairie Wear site, and ordered the compression "swell spots" from http://www.compressionguru.com. The swell spots are made by Solaris in all sorts of shapes and sizes that you can wear inside your bra or tucked into the compression pockets if your bra has those. I used the swell spots for a few weeks and then stopped when the area on my surgical breast was no longer hard.

Thanks for this information. It’s helpful. These swell spots can be used immediately after the surgery is done?

Cover with your doctor. Message in a portal if possible. They sound like a great product.

I waited a few weeks after surgery, but everyone is different. I'd definitely check with your surgeon or a PT who works with breast cancer patients. I saw a PT for lymphadema and she told me about the swell spots and how to wear them.

I had my surgical bra on when I woke up from surgery. Wore it for a few weeks because it had the wholes and was able to hook my drains to it for the shower.
