Gastro symptoms after Covid - still 1 yr later

Posted by lorisus @lorisus, Sep 28, 2023

I've had constipation, bloating (as if I was 6 months pregnant), gaining weight and little appetite. I sometimes don't eat till 6:30PM and can gain weight. I've seen every kind of Dr: Internist, Gyno, 2 Gastro Drs, Cardiologist. I've have been through every test (xrays, MRI's, ultrasounds, blood tests), and everything comes out great, except there is always so much stool detected. I have seen a nutritionist and have taken supplements (B12, Apple Cider Vinegar) presciptions (Linzess), Miralax, MG Citrate.
My last Gastro Dr told me to take Dr Schultzes Intestinal Formula #1.

This has been going on for 1 yr (2 months after having Covid). No one can help. Has anyone else encountered these symptoms?

No resolution on my long covid symptoms. The provider just encouraged me to go through their intergrative holistic physical therapy program. Not much resolution for helping me with this cough although I think it is finally starting to break up with me. This is the best I have been in four weeks, I just listened to them and rested and hydrated and stayed off work. It is going to be a long winter. I care about you too. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely, kitty2

Yes!I had the same thing you did.I had to go to the emergency room several times and all they could find was alot of stool in the intestines as well.It has been going on for over a year.I have had the best tests run at Mercy Hospital and it is showing everything is working like it should.I don't have gastroparesis. It has to be severe nerve damage brought on by covid.I was doing research and it looks like the vagus nerve controls alot of this and covid is linked to damaging the vagus nerve. The Doctor gave me medicine for extreme constipation, but it does not help much.I have a really unusual case though because I don't have any strength in my trunk of my body and I don't get the signals anymore that my belly is full or food going down to the belly.I have been to so many specialists and no one knows.

Photo from hip x-ray I had done. When they showed it to me, my first question was “what’s that in the middle?” They said I was constipated! I laughed out loud, because that morning I had 3 bowel movements. Covid has done something to us, tired of trying to figure it out.

Yes!It is so crazy and you only know if you are going through it yourself. When I went to the ER the Doctor told me that it was so high up they would not even be able to do anything to help.It is almost like the number 2 is going up instead of down.It is something only Covid could cause because it is so unusual.I know the virus can linger in the body for a long time.I just wonder if it is still in our GI Tracts and that is what is causing this.I was thinking about taking Neem.It is natural and kills anything harmful in the gut.I guess it would be good to take a probiotic with it too keep all the good bacteria.Maybe an Antiviral would be good too. Before I was diagnosed with Hashimito's Disease all they could find was high epstein barr virus titters and the antiviral helped with constipation and a bunch of other symptoms.

Since my second bout with covid and two vaccines I have been diagnosed with barrets, diverticulosis, stomach ulcers, gastritis, I have a autoimmune desease attacking my thyroid ,nodules on both left and right thyroid,a rare eczema called lichen planus on my but, glossitis on my tongue, this virus really made well the people that died quickly and the long covid people who are dieing slowly, and a government who don't give a rats ass.

Bless You! I'm so sorry about all of the issues you have. I'm almost in the same boat as you, but, not as serious. Can you please tell me what glossitis of the tongue is like? I have issues with my mouth producing excessive saliva since COVID with mucous in the back of my throat. Some days, I spit all day long. I get choked on this stuff at night. I scrape my tongue to get rid of this stuff every morning, salt water rinse, lemon ginger tea, take a mucous thinner and irrigate my sinuses (the saline solution helps dry up the mucous and saliva from irrigating.) I am going to try cinnamon tea, as it said to help dry up excessive salive, but, it has to be ordered. Does any of this sound like Glossitis and your symptoms? Thank you for your time and I am praying for you. I care.

I also had the thick sticky mucus that was awful that did go away after about 5 months, glossitis is when your tongue gets shinny red and soar my tongue looks like 2 shiny red highways at the tip of my tongue red and sore

I am so sorry.I have sibo and a bunch of other fun symptoms too.I feel like sibo, gastritis, leakygut and candida seem to go hand in hand.I just wonder how long covid can linger in the GI tract for.If it is just hanging around in the GI tract that is why other symptoms are popping up. I know it can inflame pretty much every organ and my whoke body was attacked.I have thyroid disease already, but am being checked for other autoimmune diseases as well. The problem is Covid is bringing on new Autoimmune diseases that the medical world does not even know about and making existing ones worse. It took about 20 Doctors to figure out I had thyroid disease years ago including a top doctot at John's Hopkins. Finally a local Doctor figured it out.It is very sad.
