Starting my recovery-Day 1

Posted by gigigypsy @gigigypsy, Sep 28, 2023

Hello...I had a health scare yesterday. I was rushed to the ER after what I thought might've been a heart attack. I happened shortly after I smoked Medical Marijuana. I'm not sure if that was a contributor or not, but that's what the ER Dr led me to believe it could be a contributor to me possibly passing out due to my BP being raised? I have a follow up appt. coming up next week with my PCP, but I'm anxious that it might happen again...I've taken steps in the meantime to try to lower it, like breathing, meditation, being in a quiet space for awhile, etc.
How is recovery from medical marijuana possible if I had this health scare. I'm open to ideas & hope someone can offer their experiences?

Hi, I was thinking about what you said about medical marijuana and wanted to comment. I have used it for years but mostly for recreational purposes.. I don’t like alcohol and it never did anything beneficial for me but for some people it offered something they needed. One thing I learned is that marijuana can cause serious anxiety symptoms, even panic attacks. I feel a lot has to do with your own personality and also what you want it for..if you’re trying to get help with this stuff you need some guidance as the what’s best for you.. I’m also thinking that perhaps you might want to try CBD’s which is marijuana without THC, this is the ingredient that is known to cause anxiety in some people…long story short, it’s a good option if you have problems with pharmaceutical meds but a person with knowledge about this herb will benefit you more and hopefully you don’t have to go through horrible symptoms.

Hello,

We're learning more & more about the impact of THC & Cannabis use every day. The question of the validity of the studies done pertaining to medical marijuana is complicated because marijuana has increasingly become more potent - especially medicinal. It's important we learn all we can about CBD vs THC interactions.

There is the quandary that the main components of marijuana, cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), may be working against each other at times. The short-term, acute effects of cannabis on blood pressure are well documented and understood. Immediately following the consumption of marijuana, there has been a noted spike in blood pressure and heart rate.

However, there is ever-evolving evidence that suggests the CBD element could reduce heart rate and blood pressure, lowering the risk for heart disease and strokes. On the other hand, THC – the chemical that produces euphoria – may raise the heart rate and blood pressure readings. These findings indicate cannabis formulas with a higher THC:CBD ratio may result in lasting higher blood pressure results.

Additionally, there are two other identified areas to consider. The way cannabis is consumed affects our health. We're finding that when cannabis is inhaled, one's physical health can be negatively impacted more than if an edible product is taken. Moreover, certain medications can interact with cannabis. If you take any prescription meds, over-the-counter meds or if you take in any non-traditional forms of meds, it would be a good idea to consult with a Dr or Pharmacist to ensure safe use & identify any potential contraindications or adverse effects.

*As with any medical condition, it is important to discuss health concerns & issues that arise with your doctor. Please note, any info shared is solely from my experiences & is not intended to diagnose or treat any health issues.

I hope you find an ideal balance where you are able to treat your ailments without creating any potential concerns in another aspect of your life. Sending you peace.

Medical Marijuana is believed to have contributed to a pulmonary embolism I had about ten years ago.

I was smoking daily for three years straight. I was also on a lot of other prescription at the time, so there’s that.

I no longer touch drugs or alcohol of any kind and hope to be off all prescription meds soon.

My thinking is this:

There is no upside to alcohol, the research is in. Getting drunk might be fun, but for me the negatives are too daunting,

Cannabis because it is still Federally illegal has not been adequately researched. What research we do have is equivocal, Plus it makes me lazy and stupid or anxious and paranoid depending on the strain.

The biggest mistake I have ever made in my life, and I’ve made some big ones, was living unconsciously.

Better to feel the horror and the joy than to just have things happen to me.

I will also state that this is my opinion only and It is not meant as a recommendation of any kind.

I have found diet, exercise and stress reduction (often requiring psychotherapy) to be the best treatment for all of my many health problems, mental and physical.

I hope you are feeling better soon. I nice walk might help if you’re up to it.

Be well!

This is a great response. I would only add that, while inhaling cannabis can negatively impact lungs, it's a way to know what you're getting into, almost immediately. You're going to feel the effects of what you have smoked within minutes. So you can start very low, one hit, and increase as needed for desired effect. Edibles scare me. There is a delayed onset of effects, so you won't know how it will affect you for some time, could be 30 mins, could be 2 hours after you've consumed it. If it wasn't enough, you're out of luck for that time period, if it was too much, you're going to feel like you got hit by a truck. The effects of smoked weed only last an hour or two; with edibles it could be many hours, and if you've taken too much, that's going to be a tough few hours. I have had the experience of using an edible, it took a really long time to take effect, in fact I didn't think it would and then SLAM! I was basically a mute zombie for many hours, didn't think I'd ever come down. I'm sure if you have more experience with a particular strain at a particular strength it would be more predictable. I'll stick with one hit at a time.

To the OP, I'm not sure I understand your question about "recovery from MM." I certainly wouldn't use that particular product again.
