Vaginal atrophy

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Sep 21, 2023

TO THE LADIES ONLY: As I got older I started developing vaginal atrophy. Then I started developing open splits on my labia that were extremely painful. I went to urgent care one weekend and was prescribed vaginal estrogen medicine. It did the trick but I didn’t want to use estrogen. I went to a GYN that recommending organic coconut oil to use externally only. This was a few years ago and it has worked perfectly. I have never had another problem. At all. I wanted to pass along a natural inexpensive solution to vaginal atrophy.

Great suggestion, thank you for that…what about sex, are you able to have sex with the coconut oil?

I don’t know. Ask your doctor. I only use it externally. I use the organic.

I don’t know since I don’t have a partner. However, one of the other reasons I went to the GYN was because I was thinking I might, but it never happened so I don’t know. Ask your doctor.

Yes, but in my case I also used some sort of gel. I'm 82 now so just a memory

Vaginal atrophy is a real condition like all other conditions. It affects all women, eventually, just as impotence affects men. The trick is to keep using these god-given organs as no matter the age, we produce hormones via any type of sex. Have a blessed day/night.

Sex, the elephant in the room…

My doctor said, “use it or lose it.” (Honestly, I found that to be a flippant thing to say.) However, I didn’t have a partner and masturbation wasn’t an option for me. I don’t know how different my vaginal atrophy would have been if I had been sexually active, but, I rather suspect that it would have progressed regardless, but I don’t know. Being sexually active wasn’t an option.

Sex is often the elephant in the room. In my case it was the pain associated with vaginal atrophy rather than sex. If I had had a partner, sex would have been a concern.

This is an interesting discussion. I remember my gynecologist said I could use coconut oil, but I have not tried it. My husband recently brought home coconut oil for cooking (he does the cooking), but the oil only says 100% pure and does not mention organic. Does it matter if the coconut oil is organic or not? Thanks for any answers you give to me. With all good wishes, @joybringer1

My GYN did not say organic one way or the other, but organic is easy to find and not expensive so why not? I go for organic in anyway I can. But, that’s just me.

I bought coconut oil at Whole Foods. It’s a solid, but if it gets hotter than 85 degrees, it melts. I discovered that when electricity was off and we had no air conditioning.
I use it daily and also use estrogen cream twice a week. This works great, but i also do the pelvic floor exercises twice a week.
Masturbation helps as it increases blood flow to pelvic area.
There. I said it.
