Medications for Parkinson's

Posted by edroz01 @edroz01, May 16, 2023

I am wondering what experiences (side effects/help with symptoms) anyone has with the drug Amantadine - as a stand alone or in combination with levodopa/carbidopa.

Sorry, the doctor upped his carbidopa/levodopa to 4 times a day for the droop. I’ll let you know if there’s any change.

Thanks, Teresa, for responding to @tonmarbanks. I too have balance problems but the biggest issue is a tremor in my jaw that gets so bad, it becomes audible and painful. I also have tremors in my hands and involuntary movement in my left foot. I'm also losing my voice and am trying to deal with that issue. I don't know how to emotionally deal with the symptoms of this condition. I pray others can share how they take care of themselves since their diagnosis. Thanks

Please talk to someone who specializes in CBD. Found out that it helps relax the nerves and deals with discomfort. It's has amazing effects on Parkinson's.

He only saw the doctor yesterday so has not started either treatment but I will let you know what kind of results he gets.

My husband has been on an extra dose of carbidopa/levidopa for 2 weeks now and feels there is some improvement in the curled toes and mouth droop. He now now takes meds 4 times a day with a time released dose at bedtime. With this extra dose he didn’t feel the immediate impact on his body that he has in the past with increased dosage. I’ll let you know if things change or he has the botox.

Also, regarding boxing. I searched all over for Rock Steady and couldn’t find one closer than an hour. Then my PT mentioned that there was one at our Rec Ctr but just called Parkinsons boxing. I wish they would promote it as it has been great for him.

So glad to hear that the extra dose of med is working well for him and that he is being helped by the PD boxing group, @jtes.

Little changes can often result in big results!

My husband was just taken off artane since his blood pressure is low and they feel it might have attributed to his fall a couple of weeks ago. Also took the extra 1/2 of carbadoba that he took at night. His parkinson has exasperated due to the other medical issues states the neurologist we just saw. As we go through life and all our life's change it is a wonder doctors can keep up with all their patients.
