Can PD meds stop working after taking for 10 years?
I was diagnosed 10 years ago with PD. I was doing well but in the last 2 years I have slowly become less responsive to all my PD meds. Sometime they work and other times I have a lot of trouble with freezing or difficulty walking. I was caregiving for 10 years, but after experiencing a lot of stress, my response to medication has declined. I have had several life changes and think that may be playing into it.

Pam48, Absolutely meds can stop working after 10 years. I do not have Parkinson's Disease, but, I know from my own health issues, we have had to switch up my meds over the years, as they have quit working. Talk to your doctor, I assume neurologist about this. They have come a long way in treating PD and perhaps a switch in meds is much needed for you now. Praying for you.
Thank you for your prayers and answer. I will talk to my Dr. I have numerologist/ Movement specialist.
I have only seen her once since moving here. Appointments are difficult to get and the wait is about 6 to 9 mo. It seems that way everywhere I’ve lived. I’m trying to change things up a little myself. Trial and error. Thank you again.
Neurologist.
@pam48 I really think you should give your doctor a call tomorrow. Explain to the person who makes appointments that your symptoms have greatly increased and the medicine isn’t working . You don’t want to have a crisis someday .
Can you make a call tomorrow and then let me know what you learn?
Thank you for reaching out to me. Yes, I can call today. I’ll let you know what happens. 😊
Hi @pam48, I moved your question to the Parkinson's Disease Support Group here https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/parkinsons-disease/
I did this so you can connect more easily with fellow PD members like @hopeful 33250 @ceciliafdi @jrwilli1 @edroz01 @jtes @colleenl2008 @missbutterfly2be @ggopher @psvantx @pampetra and many others.
Did you talk with your doctor? How are you doing?
@pam48 Were you able to set up an appointment with your doctor? What did they say?
