Air travel to see a Mayo Clinic physician?
I'm on the west coast and in 2018 was diagnosed, by a neurologist, with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. The condition has greatly impacted most aspects of my life and this year I began seeing a clinical psychotherapist to help me with depression. She recommends that I make plans to visit a Mayo Clinic location, maybe in Minnesota, to see a professional there. I'm wondering if anyone here has thoughts, they'd be willing to share regarding the practicality of a traveling medical visit because I'm unsure if it makes sense to see a Mayo Clinic physician who lives a plane flight away. Are there do's and don'ts that should be considered? and could they be shared here?

@bryanbay - One of the above posts mentioned if you are lucky enough to be accepted at Mayo in Rochester.... how true. I was lucky enough to be accepted and I think because at the time, my circumstances were different than many others with PN. I applied, took 4 months to get an answer and waited 3 more months to have an appointment. Being on Medicare, I had to go to MN. I went in Feb 2020 before pandemic. It is an incredible opportunity, and you will leave with answers, perhaps no reason or cure which was my case. If accepted, don't think twice.
I went to the one in Scottsdale AZ, still have PN, still Idiopathic. Spent a week there. Very disappointed, please post your results if you go to the one in Minnesota.
Thanks to all for your replies to my question; they really helped me to get things moving. I've submitted the initial request for appointment; spoken with an agent; received my medical record number; signed onto the Mayo patient portal; and submitted my request to the neurology department. Thats a lot, so thank you again.
Because I'm in the Pacific northwest, which means air travel, I'll look to get an appointment at Mayo Rochester.
I will post back here as things progress.
@bryanbay - Just a suggestion. If you get an appt in Rochester, you can fly into MSP airport, about 80 miles from Rochester. We did not. When I went, there were two airlines that flew into Rochester, MN which made things convenient, about 10 miles outside town, car rental at airport.
Good luck!
I flew into MSP, much easier, less bad weather issues than Rochester. Took Groome transportation to my hotel. Used Mayo shuttles the whole visit, except, one time had to use Lyft for early am test before shuttles working. Stayed at hotel with free breakfast and within 1 block of great restaurant for dinner and little grocery store on same block across from St Mary's. Never needed a car . Good Luck to Everyone.
Thank you. Is St Mary's the name of the Mayo clinic hospital campus in downtown Rochester?
There are 2 sections to Mayo Rochester campus. One is downtown buildings and the other, St Mary's is the hospital campus a few miles away. Suggest you look at their facilities map which shows its all.

For everyone that has gone to Mayo- did the drs there help the pain in any way and if so how?
I am trying the Saluda spinal cord stimulator and so far no pain free results
Thanks for that link. I see the address for Neurology is 200 First St SW which looks to be part of the downtown campus.
