Plantar Fasciitis: How did you get rid of it?

Posted by peggyn @peggyn, Jun 22, 2019

I don't know if this is where this should be posted, but I have a few questions. Almost seems like it goes hand and hand with neuropathy.

Have you had it and how did you get rid of it. I have done 2 injections.. I use ice and ice bottle almost nightly, I've massaged, I've purchased special shoes, and I've worn compression sleeves, plus I've done the night splint.. It just won't go away. I know it's because of the atrophy on that calf.
If you've had it please share what worked for you to get rid of it.

@peggyn I posted this before but want to post it again b/c I hate to hear of suffering through something that can be so easily cured. Go to Oofos.com or on Amazon or if you are lucky then a local store that carries the Oofos brand. They are amazing and will cure plantar fasciitis. At least the slides do. I haven’t tried the closed shoe styles yet. If you cannot afford the price, they regularly carry greatly reduced pairs on sale. They are a god-send. I will always have them around now even when my condition gets completely cured just because they are so comfortable.

Thanks, I just ordered a pair of the sandals. I usually wear Bastard wooden clogs from Sweden (same price) but lately my knees are giving me trouble with the 2 '' clog height. I like your shoe because it looks like I get the same height without the incline. I do appreciate your information.

@casey1329 I hope they work for you. Apparently, they don’t for everyone. Since they don’t make half sizes, the size that is a half size bigger than I usually wear is the most comfortable for me. That makes them a bit sloppy looking, but I don’t care. The comfort on my foot with the plantar fasciitis is wonderful. Best regards!

Are the Oofos sturdy in the front so you do not trip over them? Some of these shoes are soft in the front and bend back. I was just wondering. I have had PF for years. I know this is hard to believe, but, when I have my knees injected for my arthritis, my feet quit hurting because I'm systemic with the injection. It's not just localized to the knees with me. It works for about 12 weeks. When the knees start back hurting the PF, bone spurs & achilles tendonitis flares back up. It's amazing to me how this works. God Bless You All as I know how painful the PF can be.

@covidstinks2023 That is so interesting about the knee injections helping with so many other issues. You are lucky! To your question, I wish I could say the front of the shoe does not bend back. But I found when I was out walking at a good clip, they did bend back on me and I was lucky not to fall. So I only wear them in my house and I have never had it happen there. I’m positive that is because I walk at a more leisurely pace inside my home. I’ve worn them every minute of the day during the 3 weeks or so that I’ve owned them when I am in my home. I have nearly gotten rid of the PF entirely now. This is the first real relief I’ve had from this condition in the several years I’ve had it.
My daughter just bought a pair of sneaker style Oofos. I have no idea if they are as good as the slides in helping with PF, but they could be a better solution for some. Best wishes to you!

Specific stretching exercises (look up plantar fasciitis ones specifically) do them constantly! You will feel a stretch on your calf muscles. That is what you need to get loosened up ( i worked at a foot Dr office for years!) the exercises were always the number one treatment plan. If done correctly and often is hugely successful

I’ve had it and I also worked at a podiatrist office for years! My case was before I worked for a podiatrist. I had a very severe case. I also had tarsal tunnel. I needed surgery. Nothing else worked. Everything you mentioned you’re doing is helpful but not the #1 way this painful condition will go away. The #1 way is the specific plantar fasciitis exercises. They need to be done often if it is bad (4-5 times a day) and keep doing them until the back of your calf muscle loosens. The pain will decrease but if it was let go for a while and the exercises were not done aggressively it can take come time to feel relief. Keep going with the exercises do not give up. They will work. Also, when you get up from a sitting/laying position it can be extremely painful. Get something like the Crocks shoes to slip on your feet before you take your first step. It will help! I hope this helps you. I will say from what I seen if you aren’t doing the exercises aggressively like I said all the other stuff you’re doing will only help for a short period of time!

My foot doctor recommended calf strengthening exercises, along with the usual treatments you read about. My fasciitis is not a problem anymore, but I still
do calf stretches daily. I walk an hour a day, and believe these exercises are what made the difference. Look up belt stretches, then keep it at your bedside to do before you get out of bed. 😁🤞🏻

I was told that zappos will sell you 2 different size shoes at no additional cost. Worth a try!

Try National odd shoe exchange .

All good ideas here. I got rid of my plantars fasciitis by using the frozen coke bottle exercise. It really helped! Also, I wear really good shoes. Hope you find a solution from all these good suggestions.

Glad you didn’t have to have surgery. I wear Oofos now. Have 5 pairs.

WARNING: I retract my recommendation to wear Oofos slides in the house to cure Plantar Fasciitis. I just had a pretty serious fall caused by the front folding back under (as another member questioned me about) as I looked back over my shoulder. Now I have a very painful hamstring injury from a fall yesterday. I cannot bend my knee. It’s a shame b/c they really helped my plantar fasciitis.
