Pressure/pain in nose & upper teeth

Posted by tzachi121 @tzachi121, Jul 3, 2023

In the last few years i am suffering from feeling of strong pressure inside the right side on my nose . Sometime also in the front upper teeth .
Intensifies during physical activity . After few minutes of laying down it almost disappeared.
I have also many time thick back nasal drip only on this side
Visited : ENTs , dentists , neurologists, mouth & jaw , alergy specialist . Did CT , did Fess surgery .took variuos neurological medicines , antibiotics , telfast . Nobody know what it is .
I can point to an area inside my noise that seems to be the focus of the pressure .
Any idea ?

Hi @dloos. I havnt gone back for your journey so hopefully not repeating or frustrating with following 🙃 After consult with ENT head surgeon, for year and half of indescribable front of head/face pressure/pain causing random difficulty breathing with no other obvious sinus issues, found varying inflammation likely cause. This led me to track detailed daily activity and food for triggers of increased inflammation. Don't get discouraged by low inflammation food lists or activity restriction as you’ll find many sources here and other reputable sites for beneficial pacing and food alternatives. Best of healing to you🌈

Thanks for your comments. I have not done a restrictive diet. I have read about the low histamine diet of course, and know it has helped some. I have lost thirty pounds this year and frankly now just try to eat whatever appeals to me to keep some weight on. Maybe this is incorrect thinking, but when I was very careful and trying for a healthier diet weight was still falling off. Some days I eat pretty well, organic and reasonable amounts, other days I eat ice cream. Other days I have no appetite and find it hard to eat at all. Just trying to get through the day and not waste away.

Still looking for answers on clogged ears (16 months)
Some believe it is all related to sinus issues. I certainly believe it is all related in some way, shape or form. My nose is very dry, seems swollen, but not snotty and makes breathing difficult. Then it will spontaneously clear and I can breathe again.
Have seen all kinds of doctors. (6 ENTs). Nobody has a clue.

I too have clogged ears that comes and goes after a hearing loss. ENT says everything about nt ears are normal - it's in the brain. I started though having ear and jaw pain after taking a cancer med. Only thing that temporarily helps are hot compresses. I might try acupuncture for the ear.

I hope you find some relief.
My hearing loss is connected to Covid. I have tried two different Acupuncturist and for me it was not the answer.
Many medications are ototoxic and doctors aren’t very knowledgeable on that.

Hey there, Did you have COVID by chance? COVID can do a lot of crazy things. I am a long time sinus sufferer with allergies and had sinus surgery back in 1994. Pressure & pain in the face, nose & upper teeth for me comes from sinus pressure or a sinus infection. Have you tried a sinus irrigation like NeilMed Sinus rinse? This is different than the netti pot. As the netti pot can back up in your eustachain tubes and cause more issues. This has helped me greatly. Also, there is a product on Amazon called Alkalol that is a sinus spray with essential oils that has helped. It cleans out the sinuses. Please talk to your doctor before trying these. I'm curious, are you stuffy? Is it hard to breathe? I question allergies. I also question if you have a blockage...you may need a 2nd option from an ENT. I pray you get some relief from this. I know this is miserable for you.

Hello. My name is Lisa. In April 2023 I came down with shingles and while healing I picked up Covid. So by June 2023, I was a hot mess. Between shingles and Covid it turned my body into a mess of problems. Migraines, chronic surf severe fatigue, almost no cortisol, brain fog, and left side, chronic pain that feels like burning inside my left nostril, left upper teeth, deep in my left side of my throat, and my left side of my tongue. It’s been two years now, and I am still suffering from chronic fatigue and left side pain in my face. I spent the last two years going to ENT’s, endocrinologist, Family, doctor, neurologist, neurosurgeon, and Pain specialists. I’ve been on a slew of medications because all of my tests that have been ran do not show proof of anything and without proof you can’t treat what’s there. So they have been chasing a ghost for two years now. Tried lyrica, steroids, gabapentin, LDN, carbamazepine, and I’m currently three months into indomethacin. They just keep trying medication to see if anything changes anything but nothing has changed. It has definitely consumed my life for the last two years. A year ago I spent a week at Mayo Clinic seeing if they had any answers and they came vaccine that I had long Covid. Since a year ago, I started getting Botox injections to help control my chronic migraines, and I give myself monthly injections to also help control those. It has helped 60% of my migraines, but my left side facial pain still exists. The only time I’m not in pain is when I’m sleeping.

My immunologist tells me it’s been two years and he has long Covid patients that have been dealing longer than that and that I should just settle in and work on any anxiety and get rest and manage my days with his little stress as possible.

My neurosurgeon does see my blood vessels are enlarged and could be touching the left side, trigeminal nerve and maxillary nerve but they do not want to do surgery because the pain I describe although chronic and it feels like a match is in my nose and throat 24 seven, because it’s not electric shock pain like they usually deal with when doing surgeries, they are afraid That surgery will not help.

So here I am, mourning, my old self, who was a successful executive assistant for 30 years, an extrovert that loves people and doing for others.

Now I spend my days being up for two hours doing very little and then resting for two hours up for two hours. Rest for two hours. My mornings are about a level three of pain but by evening, I’m definitely a six or seven. I wear my sunglasses and a hat everywhere because by afternoon, any kind of sunlight bothers my migraines.

Hope and faith is so important so I will never give up on those, but I am learning to mourning my old self so that I can find peace with this version of the new me.

Long Covid and shingles is so complicated. My neurologist thinks the shingles damage some of the nerves in my brain and it could be permanent. I don’t believe that. I still feel like it’s trigeminal neuralgia and I’m working to see the neurosurgeon will do TMJ surgery. If it’s non-invasive, and there’s any chance it could help, I need to convince him to try

@smithakar I know this is an old thread, but were you ever able to resolve this? You are the first person I’ve seen with something so similar to me. I’ve had chronic pain that I feel primarily in my sinuses and teeth but sometimes in my temples and occipital region. It’s not sharp pain, it’s more like a dull? Almost throbbing pressure and there is not a single medication that touches it. The only thing that ever helped were steroids, and as soon as I stopped the steroids it came right back. Mine started a few weeks after I had Covid and has persisted almost constantly for almost 1.5 years.

I also thought mine was sinus related, and found a deviated septum and draining issues on CT. So I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction and felt fantastic for a few months. Then it came back and again will not go away. It has usually been accompanied by neck/upper back/shoulder pain (mild-moderate like a pulled muscle). I’ve tried muscle relaxers and rubs in case it’s tension related but that does not help. I just feel constant pressure in my head and it interferes with my daily life. I also have chronic insomnia which seems to make it worse. I’ve had both a CT and MRI of my head with no significant findings other than my deviated septum.

The only OTC thing that has ever done ANYTHING for it is cannabis, which is legal where I live. But I can’t spend my whole life under the influence, let alone that long term heavy use leads to other side effects (for me personally anyways) I’d prefer to avoid.

Were you ever able to solve this?

Hello,

I have been dealing with extreme nose & upper teeth pain the past 1.5 years. The pain is constant and effects my everyday life. It started 2-3 weeks before I tested positive for Covid so I am not sure if this is related to Covid or a separate issue. At first I thought it was sinus related so I went to the ENT doctor. They checked my nose & did a CT scan and didn't see any signs of sinusitis but because I had a deviated septum and other structural issues they decided to do Sinus surgery. I had relief for 6 weeks post surgery but then the pain came back. The ENT doctors do not believe this is sinus related. When I went to Neurology they ruled about Trigeminal Neuralgia and other neuro issues because my pain is usually bilateral. I have been to the dentist, a TMJ specialist, rheumatologist I have done several nerve blocks, taken steroids, antibiotics, acupuncture, ayurvedic meds, pain clinic, everything you can think of. I am a patient at Mayo and when I visited MN as a long covid patient I did get some suggestions but those aren't working either. Is there anyone that relates to my issues? If so what has worked for you? What was your diagnosis?

Hi sadly I have not been able to solve this 🙁 I still deal with constant pain every single second of the day. I’m still hoping something comes up. Have you tried nerve blocks or taken nerve meds?
